As much as I despise the games RBR were trying to play that day Adrian looked a rather emtional after the checkered flag fell.

Yes; I expected it before the race, but his immediate post-race reaction seemed to show genuine concern.

I think what it comes down to is that the games RBR (Horner) needed to play that day happened to also be inline with the genuine emotional viewpoint of Newey. So they let him speak to the cameras.

Newey was expressing proper concern which Horner was happy to exploit to not be disadvantaged by an FIA decision or starting from the pit lane.

Horner has proved himself capable of such blatant manipulation in the past and don't see any reason why it would be beneath him to offer up the sacred cow of the team on camera to gain an advantage/ not be disadvantaged.
