I know you said a "new" pump but new as in out of a box or used replacement?

106 I assume? Check the fuses and connectors as described in the Haynes.

Having had my 106 GTi for seven years... when it comes to electrics - have patience and be thorough.

Does the battery light work? If it's like other systems it won't work until the alternator is charging.

Nice work.

Now, to address the ABS light - this could be a number of things. I might suggest and recommend that the easiest course of action is to pop it to a decent Pug indy garage and drop them a few quid to plug it into their fault-code reader machine - that way you'll have a better idea of where to start looking, no?!

This!

The ABS light is 9/10 caused by a broken wire/faulty sensor, a code reader will tell you which wire this is (one for each corner) and could save you hours of time + buying the incorrect sensor.

Best of luck!
