I owned one for a short period of time (July 2009 to October 2010). The most unreliable car I've ever had, constant electrical problems. I think this was down to it being an very early car (November 2007 build) and I would consider another XF again as, apart from the problems, it was a lovely car to drive.
If you can stretch to an early XFR then I would recommend that. The SV8 is a little lacking in some areas (seats, brakes, noise) that I think the XFR addresses.

I've had one for 6 months now and love it! No issues at all other then the fuel filler cap not always opening and the alarm goes off once or twice a week on its own. Still, it's currently in the garage getting a service and having these things repaired under warranty. Oh, the cooled passenger seat also needs looking at.
For me, it's the best of both worlds....speedy enough and also comfy. For 19 grand I failed to find anything better that suited me.
Still don't get the point of the sport mode...all it seems to do is to hang onto the gears under braking....doesn't seem to go any faster though!

If you want a Q car which looks no different to the boggo diesel XF, and is 8/10ths of the XFR then the SV8 is a very capable car.
I've owned mine for about 6 months now, it has had a few niggly engine warning lights due to a MAF and CAT which have both been replaced under warranty, but on its day it's sublime. The gearbox is slick, downshifts in sports mode give a pleasing blip of the throttle, and you can make some rapid yet discreet progress. For pootling around town it's no different to a regular XF, show it a decent B road and it doesn't half shift. Only issues are no LSD, exhaust/engine note is too discrete for my liking and the interior isn't as special as the XFR.
Mines up for sale because I changed jobs and now have a 40 mile daily commute- unfortunately after three months of the new job the need for something slightly more sensible is unavoidable. But if I wasn't doing the mileage it definitely wouldn't be going.
