Suggested Photo Album on PC Software
Discussion
I have just updated my PC with a SSD drive (which is impressive so far)
and updating my various software
I have been used to using Adobe Photo Album software which is now obsolete
and have nearly 50000 pics to catalogue again
All I want to do is keep all my pics together on my PC (but also backed up)
as I have separate software to alter them if I need (photoshop, paint, etc)
Basically, which is the best and easiest free Album to use now please
Picassa?
Thanks
Richard

If you're on windows 8, there's a photo library app included with it that would be worth a look.
Picassa was good, but not used it in years.
Adobe Lightroom is good, but not free unfortunately (but it's not too badly priced these days)
Thanks for the reply SSPicassa was good, but not used it in years.

I think Picasa is still very very good.
It does lots of clever little things:-
1. Auto-face recogition. choose an album and show the faces view - it gives a bar on the right with all the faces it sees and guesses who they are - once you populate a few it's guesses are very good and it is very very easy to tag everyone in photos
2. Date order of albums. It "guesses" the date of an album based on the date taken in the EXIF data of the photos. This means it doesnt get confused by silly things like the date you created the folder, or the date you edited a photo.
3. It's very quick and easy to browse many many folders/albums.
4. Its integrated into Google+ (if you want it to be) and relatively easy uo upload and share photos.
There are more....

So far so good with Picasa - seems to have picked up all the pics off my drives
and nice and clear to view so far
Just shows up how many times I have copied files and stuck on several drives
as it brings up as duplicates - but at least together as you say works well by date taken
Cheers again
