I don't play computer games. Ever. I don't hate them, just don't play them.

However the new Grand Theft Auto game looks like fun, I've seen a few clips on YouTube. A couple of questions to those that know....

My son (12) has a relatively new X Box which is connected to the Internet and in the living room rather than his bedroom. Hooked up to a high def flat screen etc.

1. From my limited research this game has to be loaded from the discs into the X Box memory. Does this mean that my son would have access to the game? (I wouldn't want him to)

2. For someone who doesn't play these games, is this so complex that I'd find it unsatisfying somehow? I've read about missions and stock market trading etc.

Simple honest answers would be welcome! smile I've come close to ordering the game, but have stopped doing so because I don't know the answer to those 2 questions.

1) You install disc 1 - you need disc 2 'the play disc' to play it, so just dont allow him access to it.
2) Definitely not complex, you'll be fine smile

Enjoy the game

As said you need to install disc one and then use disc 2 to play, you can't play with out that disc being in the console. You can install any game onto the Xbox hard drive but you will always need the disc to play it.

The game it's self is not that simply but there are lots of promts to tell you what button to press to do certain things so after a while you will know what to do with out being told. As for the game play, there are lots of missions for each character at any one time. The main story is easy enough to keep track of the rest are side missions you can do as and when and in no particular order.

It arrives tomorrow. smile

Is there a way I can install it without my son seeing it on the X Box? I've created myself as a user and a password being needed to log myself in. I assume he will see all games on the console?

It's just he'll bug the hell out of me forever to play it.

I think if you install it then don't keep the disc in he will never know. He woul have to go into the hard drive settings to see something new installed.

Old enough to know better. smile

My son is the perfect pest when he wants something - he doesn't give up. So I'd rather not go through the inevitable months of being bugged!

He'll work it out soon enough - Xbox Live keeps a tally of what games you've been playing. I'd assume he already knows about it anyway. Probably best to use bribery to shut him up. wink

It will appear in My Games, so it will just have to be some good 'ol parenting and remembering how to say no.
Just tell him you wont allow him a game that has lap dances and prostitutes in it.

Anyway, he will just play it round his mate's house anyway.

His mates having the game is a problem...... I can't really understand why some of his friends have 18 certificate games at 11 years old.

Our 10 year old son has been badgering us about playing GTA V ( I play it currently ). He has been told no and that we do not care if his friends have it or not. Maybe a little harsh but being told no never done me any harm...
If other kids parents don't care enough to check the content of some games, that is their choice IMO of course.

Nice to see another parent who doesn't just give in, my parent said when she went to pick the game up at the midnight release ( lucky me biggrin ) she couldn't believe the amount of youngsters there with their parents.

I think it's hard for a parent to comprehend what kind of content could be in this game. My friend was thinking of getting it for her 10 year old thinking the 18 cert was because of all the gore/violence which he's already used to in COD. I showed her a couple of Trevors cutscenes online and little Billy is no longer getting gta5 for xmas.

Lol at spoiling little Billys Christmas, I bet you won't be popular if he finds out but I have to agree. When I went to pick my pre-order up at Game, the cue was literally full of school-kids which prompted several thoughts.

1) GTA V is NOT appropriate for someone of that age at all
2) Why is the store willingly selling games to under-age kids, surely there is a risk of them getting caught\fined?
3) Those pesky kids would have meant having to wait over an hour in the cue so I went away and came back to get it the next day although I was tempted to cause a fuss and tell the store they shouldn't be selling 18 rated games to under-age kids just so I could get to the front of the cue biggrin

What I notice is the rating is "PEGI" now, not the same as a few years ago with GTA4 where they had the same 18 logo as films etc. I think PEGI may be a voluntary scheme rather than compulsory?
On a side note, I'm 25 now, but when I was younger got my mum to buy me every GTA from the first to San Andreas, I turned out alright..ish lol

PEGI took over from the BBFC last year for all video game ratings, and the ratings are legally enforceable. So any shops selling GTA V to children can be prosecuted.

Moving to PEGI was actually good news since PEGI is a ratings system and not a censorship board so has no remit to ban games ..

Looks like my local Game could have got in trouble, there were literally about 50 school kids in the queue, replete with school uniform. Is it really worth the risk for them to do this? How much could they be fined?

The fine is only up to £5K looking at an article from last year, but in theory this could be in conjunction with six months in prison.
