A few questions to start,
Tube sizes for out rotters?
Body mounting bracketry and seat belt mount thicknesses?
And what the hell is that loop of metal by the seat belt mount for?

I have also done a lot of research on the subject, but it would be great if people who have done chassis restores in the past would post links to thier builds here, and maybe we could creat a one stop shop ( sticky) for all the relevant info
Over to you guys
biggrin

I didnt bother with that loop thing. No idea.

I wish i hadnt gone standard. The originals are very light with only a 1.6mm wall thickness.
Future proof it and use proper roll cage standard material with at least 3.2mm wall.
The weight difference will be insignificant but much stronger and ready for a full cage to spec if ever required.

I'm going to use CDS but until I see how far the rot has crept I plan on using the sleeved method so will keep to the standard thickness, I'm going to spray por15 then possibly top coat with a colour, that stuff beats powder coat hands down and will work out cheaper

I did mine last winter, I only had room for a 2" lift not the full body off. If I did it again id cut all nuts off with a grinder. Don't bother with captive when you put it back together just use nylock.
As for the tubes I bought mine from RT Racing. Just so I got the right size, pretty sure its 32mm OD 1.6mm T.
The only parts that had rotted were the long runners. I cut these off and replaced like for like. Pretty easy if you can weld and grind. Just was a pain for me due to access in the garage.
I used a zinc based paint rather than POR. Previous owner had used POR and it peeled off.
Before I lowered the body again I filled the gaps that collect crud with mastic then lowered the body till it squashed out, to keep crud out.
Going to cover them in stone guard this winter, on advice from a guy I know who restores classics.
Hope this helps even a little

Best of luck !! Daunting but exciting at the same time isn't it...biggrin

I've just passed 1000 photos taken on my body off so if you need pics of anything just shout and (famous last words) I should have it.

Have been meaning to start a blog/web page but just don't have the time at the moment.

Also, try not to get down or disheartened. There will be times when it feels like nothing much is getting done e.g. cleaning and painting of parts. Its all valuable work, but you can't really see anything changing on the chassis. Just keep going and when the major changes do come it feels great. E.g. my engine went back into the chassis the other weekend and it feels like such a milestone passed. Before that it felt like all I was doing was painting and protecting stuff and the end was never in sight.

P.s my chassis was completely stripped and powder coated by Str8six with new outriggers. They haven't replaced the metal hoops. If they're ok with that then so am I.

Rather get the impression your arse would have been scraping along the ground bounce before too long if you hadn't started the refurb - good timing!

Good work Richard.
Your outriggers are nearly as bad as mine were but not quite. My offside one literally fell off as i lifted the body.

Awesome work. I donna do this, but struggling for an empty garage at the moment. How did you lift the body?
