AM Extended Warrany
Discussion
My V12V is going out of its 3 years manufacturer's warranty at the end of next month and I am not convinced the expensive AM warranty proposed by my dealership is such a good idea.
I have searched the forum and I hear that it is not actually an AM cover but something provided by an external company and that not much is actually covered...
Any experience or recommendation would be appreciated.
Thanks

I'm in the same situation as you and have decided to take my chances without the extended warranty for the exact reasons you state.
I had the warranty extended on my V8 and only claimed for a thermostat.
I've made sure all the 'known' issues have been addressed, so fairly happy...
Guess it depends on your risk appetite.

I can only count myself lucky that I took out the extended warranty... a few big jobs this year - new windscreen (heated elements had stopped working), new heated seat element (that stopped working too), a couple of noisy belts and cables, a new gearbox!!! Dealer estimates more than 25-30K in value this year alone. And I only had the plus policy (because my car is more than five years old) but now Aston are offering the premium warranty for cars up to 10 years old so it's definitely worth while from my point of view - when things go wrong they are usually very expensive so I think the warranty is a very worthwhile insurance policy.
Definitely down to your appetite for risk. I bought my DB9V from a dealer two years ago, its a 2006 car and have always had the 'plus' warranty.
The car has now covered 76K and I have just upgraded to the Premium Warranty which whilst not cheap, is very comprehensive which is great considering the age of the car. I will be changing the car sometime in the next 12 months for another Aston, so I think having this cover will not only enhance the value of the car, but will also ensure that is is also is the best possible condition should work be required, before sale.
Over two years, I have had two suspension springs replaced, so nothing that would have cost more than the warranty, but for me the opportunity cost of peace of mind is worth it.

My warranty came up this week for renewal and I decided not too.Pete your post has put the wind up me.
What model and year is your car and what's the mileage please.
Although I appreciate problems are not mileage sensitive I only do 1.5 K p.a.
Any particular reason for what appears to me to be quite a lot of problems and a new gearbox, what's that about ?

Didn't someone recommend going to BR, or similar, for a full check, which will cost you a little, then you can go to dealer and get all bits that need replacing under warranty just before it runs out?
Yes! I'm going to do this very shortly
edit: mine runs out dec, not renewing.

i know that doesn't cover you on-going but starts you off on the right foot.
I did this when my warranty was a month from ending on the V8V. I had BR do the 6 year service and a 140 point check, plus a look around the car for anything that should be attended to under warranty so that I could get it all done before the warranty expired. Once the warranty had expired I decided not to renew it. Happy to say that, other than the normal front cover oil seepage (which was very minor), the car had a clean bill of health.i know that doesn't cover you on-going but starts you off on the right foot.
It is a shame that BR don't do work under the AM warranty scheme.
It is a gamble, odds in the insurer's favour. I had two years of AM warranty and whilst it was peace of mind, I didn't renew when it expired and took out one from Warranty Direct Lite at 20/30% of the cost of the AM one. Obviously the cover isn't as good but I've also heard that the AM Plus policy doesn't cover a lot of things that you'd expect it to cover.
Has a 2007 DB9 for a year.
Lots done by the dealer by them ( not warranty) when purchased - how it passed a 140 check was a mystery to us all.
Post this I have had a fuel sender replaced ( 10 hrs labour - they take the back of the car off!). Had it not been covered it would not have bothered.
Other than that 12 months with no problem.
Another year of warranty to go.
Doubt I will renew.
