SVM Qashqai R update
Qashqai with a GT-R engine a tad predictable after the Juke R? How about with 1,000hp then?

See, the GT-R/Qashqai+2 lovechild won't exactly be a standard conversion, if ever such as thing could ever be considered standard. Oh no. SVM will be building the GT-R's VR38DETT 3.8-litre V6 to 1000R spec. Blimey. The full spec on a 1,000hp GT-R engine can be seen here, but notable upgrades include forged pistons and rods, Stage 6 turbos and a blueprinted block.
So we gave the guys at SVM a ring to find out where they are with Qashqai 1000R. The body is now off the jig and attached to the GT-R running gear, and the welding is done up to the bulkhead. It aims to have the car ready for the Autosport show in January, and has already had some interest from potential customers. It's the perfect PH family car, right?
Furthermore, its appearance will be fairly discreet, at least as 1,000hp cars go. SVM says it's aiming for a 'street sleeper' look, with wheel arch extensions, a rear spoiler and a bonnet with functional air vents expected to be the only cosmetic changes. GT-R wheels will be used to accommodate some much, much bigger brakes than the standard Qashqai.
'What's the point?' was a feeling upheld in many of the original thread comments on the Qashqai R. 'Just because' seems to be the response from SVM, and we have a sneaking suspicion it will be rather hilarious fun too.

SVM have some excellent engineers and spannermen, so they will make a great job of this.
I mean, seriously, this is PISTONHEADS ! This is a 1000bhp cross-over ! What's not to like?!
If this does not get a PH score above 8-9 then this website is doomed and it may as well close down now while the members all go to Mumsnet.
As i need a decent boot for the dog, a raised ride height for going down farm tracks and i like my fast cars.
The only problem i can see that if the wheel arch extensions are too big then it would be too wide for narrow car parks.
So Nissan make a "sporty" qashqai / x-trail and as long as its not to expensive, i will buy one tommorrow.

That's good enough for me to not get a hard-on over this.
I'd never suggest that people shouldn't be allowed to do this. I've never really been interested in sleepers. Certainly not cross overs which I wouldn't enjoy driving regardless of the power. I'm actually not really very interested in GTRs because I prefer a raw and flawed sportscar with some humanesque qualities over technology showcases.
If I were going to build a fast car, it certainly wouldn't look like a f*****g Qashqai. I feel similarly about the V6 Clio FWIW - if going to all that effort why squeeze an ugly little cheap hatchback body (approximately) over it?
I'm happy for them to get on with it - it's a free country. I still think it's crap though.

I agree it is a little pointless and excessive, along with 800hp Brabus Merc S classes, but certainly not crap.

I don't find myself attracted to cars on a top trumps basis???
I don't see why someone is inherently less of a petrolhead just because they aren't jizzing their pants over a GTR made to look like its owner makes their own parking spaces by shunting wheelie bins with it.
