Really, really old Trance....

Does anyone have memories of really early Trance? Like Pacific 202 and the like? I've been invited to DJ a friends party early next year - it's an 'illegal old school rave' theme... I can do the rave stuff, but the Mrs of the couple likes very early Trance. I'm drawing blanks... I'm also expecting a few arguments as to what the genre 'Trance' will contain!

So, any thoughts?

It does get a bit grey when you start going back!

For me it's stuff like Jam & Spoon - Right in the Night, PVD - For & Angel, and a few others like Age of Love etc. I must admit my taste of that era of trance tends to be pretty mainstream! Probably a consequence of not quite being old enough to properly enjoy it first time round...

Sounds like it's going to be a heck of a lot of fun though!

Interesting, Age of Love and Pacific 202 are a year apart.... 1990 Vs 1989. For an angel is 1994 though - far too modern!

Oldest thing I can remember buying (not really Trance, but 'rave-wise') was French Kiss by Lil' Louis from '89.

Hmm that's a toughie OP. People seem to think that trance started in 1998, but that was only when it started getting mainstream. I can't really help you any further than that but maybe some of the future suggestions by other posters won't be from 1998 onwards!

Not sure on the years of those though, probably a bit too modern!

Have a look through the Harthouse, R&S and Rising High back catalogues on Discogs. Some absolutely stonking stuff in there which is the right era and genre. If you're after particular track recommendations, I'm sure I can come up with a reasonable list.

Ive got another mix in the pipeline myself, mid nineties trance- finally tracked down Karen Ramirez - "Lies" (Tilt remix) and The Auranaut - "People want to be needed" on vinyl, so will be getting to work on that shortly

'Resistance D' , now theres a name behind some epic tracks.

I think 'Feel so High' is one of my all time favourite 'properly get lost in it' trance anthems, makes my hair stand on end just thinking about it!
