Mazda 3 rear noise - eh?

I've just bought a 3 year old Maz 3 2.2d Sport 150 with what sounds like a failing n/s wheel bearing. I've "googled" this and see there could be some issues with rear end noise.

Does anyone have a similar experience - am going to check bearings next week but am concerned it could be this known problem? Cheers

Check the tyres are not worn oddly. Sounds just like a wheel bearing.
