(Including the car!)

Had the pleasure of the B&O system in an Audi A4 and thought it was pretty amazing. In an everyday family runabout a small factor (for me) is the quality of the stereo. In our Astra it's st!

For the fair sum of £10000 what modern 4 seater, economical (blah blah blah) daily driver would give me the best sounding stereo with iPod integration, Bluetooth etc???

IME most standard car stereos arnt all that. Some aftermarket items can really improve the quality of sound available just depends how far you want to go. Dont go thinking you need some max power system either. Most good installers can get it so you'd never know from looking anything was changed.

The standard system in my old Volvo S60 (HU-803 IIRC) is probably the best I've heard. To my ears, it was even better than the £700-ish Harmon/Kardon upgrade in my dad's E500.

The Sony system in my old Mondeo (ST220) was one of the best systems I've heard in recent times. Not bad for standard kit either. I can't say I've heard or been in a MK4 but I'd imagine it's much the same and I suspect with maybe bluetooth integration etc.

Otherwise the Bose systems in some Audi models seems reasonable. An old A4 B7 sounded pretty good.

Save your 10K and drive the Monaro instead. You won't need a stereo then biggrin

6 posts in, you'll fit in just fine around here wink

Mazda have Bose systems in a lot of models, not bad systems for the price.

You will need a decent exhaust and induction kit though, if you want to Monaro to make a pleasing noise. Otherwise, they're a fairly muted affair.

Oh the Monaro has the ultimate sound system - switchable Wortec and headers... But ironically it also has a half decent aftermarket hifi set up too lol....

Anyway... Top choices seem to be:

Dynaudio (Volvo / VW)
Mark Levinson (Lexus)
B&O (Audi)

I've listened to HK stuff in Minis and Bose in Audis but wasn't blown away by either. Anyone listened to all the above?

when I first saw the thread title.....I was thinking surely there can't be anyone nuts enough to spend £10K on a sound system for a car.......

Bose in my 350Z is better than average car stereo but is by no means a patch on the Volvo ones.

I had a 2006 Focus with the Sony stereo upgrade (the one with the glossy black facia and Sony speakers). Was excellent compared to most factory fit systems. Not monstrously powerful, and it was pretty basic by current standards - no Bluetooth, USB, DAB or nav - but it played MP3 CDs and sounded far clearer than the standard setup.

I had the 'Sony' (iirc not actually made by Sony, merely branded) in MK mk2 Focus ST. It wasn't bad but it's not in the same league as (for example) the system I heard in the A4

I quite fancy another jag next year, xj6 with a budget of 8-10k, so bit of a barge, but was hoping the stereo would be abit, "tasty."
Anyone know?

The Volvo one is actually the standard fit one (at least on SE spec cars), called the HU-803.

This is an interesting question. I always liked the B&O in my Dads A5 sportback.
