Glastonbury 2014

So the coach tickets went on sale today and normal tickets go on sale 9:00 this Sunday; who's either got coach tickets already or going to be up Sunday morning, bright and early surrounded by tablets, laptops and smartphones?
We are fairly new to the festival game, I'm 38 and the better half is 39, our first festival was Glastonbury 2011 and since then we've done Reading every year and done a few smaller festivals too.
We tried to get tickets for Glastonbury for this year however failed, we aren't going to Reading next year as it clashes with our holiday so we really hope to get them on Sunday as a big festival is part of our summer now.
It'll just be myself and the wife, our then 12 yo came with us to Glastonbury in 2011 however she won't be coming, if we get tickets for next year, she'll be 15 and will be in a really important year at school so we can't take her out, much to her annoyance.

A mate and I each had a laptop, pc and phone. After about 40mins having not been able to even get on the first screen, I mahabed to get to the "enter your reg numbers".. But first go didn't work, second time lucky and 2 tickets were booked!! Woohoo!

I got coach tickets for a group of six of us that go every year. Fortunately another six mates got 'standard' tickets on Sunday, so they are able to carry tents/kitchen sink etc in the car for us (we like our camping luxuries, long gone are the days of slumming it on a roll mat in a teeny two manner from Millets) so that's all worked out well. Only problem is that I am going to be known as a Busw@nker for the next nine months!
I was online trying and failing to get tickets for other mates on Sunday, disappointed for them that they missed out. Although I've been lucky in getting tickets for the last six Glastonburys, I dare say a time will come where I miss out and will have a strop! I do think there should be a fairer way of flogging the tickets though - perhaps 25% in a ballot, where you get a week to accept or decline them, then the remainder go on general sale after that week has passed. Obviously needs a bit of thought - they might want to allow, say, three other registrations to be linked so that groups of friends could go together, and there's the obvious problem of multiple registrations for the same person to increase their changes of getting picked in the ballot.
It's a tricky one, some people seem to repeatedly miss out - I've got a good mate who thinks there is a conspiracy against him ever getting to go! Shame, because it really is "The Best Festival In The World (tm)", I go to a lot of festivals in the UK and overseas, it's always the one that people want to talk about, alas lots of people don't get to enjoy it. Yeah, I know, I could be all warm and fuzzy and decide not to go so somebody else gets the chance, I'm keping my powder dry on that score until Mrs PurpleTurtle fires a kid out and bans me from going for a few years!

I've tried for tickets the last three years now, without success, while others that I vaguely know seem to always get through year after year. It is pretty annoying!

I think that festivals have become too cool for their own good now, with Glastonbury being top of the 'cool' wish list for many.

I know what you mean. Without trying to sound like the music snob that I am, the last few years at Glastonbury do seem to have been taken over by the 'seen to be seen there' crowd ... the ubiquitous 19yo blonde in hotpants and wellies (this is a problem!?) getting on her boyfriend's shoulders to get a photo of herself looking cool to instantly upload to Facebook, then getting down and promptly rabbiting at high volume through the acoustic parts of a legendary artist. Meanwhile musos all around are inwardly screaming 'STFU!!!' but are being too British to actually say anything. I've gone past caring now, and do politely tell such people to STFU, some people are good about it, others kick off. They've even got a mobile hair & beauty parlour there now, it's all going 'a bit V Festival'. I can't see me bothering to even try next year....
We have started going to Latitude and End of The Road festivals now, both have a really chilled out atmosphere, especially the latter, with good lines ups and no stress getting tickets. I'd recommend both as smaller sized alternatives.
I'm old enough to remember the days when you didn't need to buy a ticket.. The first time I ever went, was 2000. I had the £80(that was the price of a ticket!!) in my pocket but the large group that we went with, all had no tickets.
So about 20 of us stroll right up to the front entrance, shuffle around, and then head right, following the perimeter fence. We pass a couple of secuirty cars, see a policeman arresting a man, and all just walk past, away from the entrance. By now, there must have been about 50 of us, all not knowing how we would get in. Another security driven Land Rover was around, but what were they going to do? 3 vs 50..
Im a short while, I spot the steriotypical dreradlocked crusty looking chap, holding a part of the corrugated fence open and saying "come one!" We half exepcted to have to pay something towards his kind gesture of creating a hole in the fence, but no, this wasn't required. So in we went, with securty watching on.
Wandering around that weekend, I would guess that half the people in there didn't pay if my wrist band spotting was anything to go by!
Two years later, they had spent millions on a fence and it started to get progressively harder to get tickets as the years have gone on. I would say in about 2005/6, it became trendy to go. People I know that "didn't do festivals", and hardly went to a live gig, were chomping at the bit to get a ticket!
One such girl managed to get a ticket and was so happy. I did have a bit of laugh when I saw her on the Friday morning, wearing a lot of white. Maybe not the nest colour for a muddy music festival!
Years ago, I thought that they should have some pre-sale tickets for people who have 10 gig ticket stubs from the previous 6/12 months, so that some proper music fans could be given a better chance to get tickets. But I wouldn't be able to do that now, so it's a bad idea.
I can't wait...it's going to be great!

You never get too old to see the sunset and sunrise at Glastonbury Festival. If you think you are, then move over and let someone else have your space
I almost think that the real Glastonbury Festival should be during the previous week, with just the big headline acts and getting hammered off your tits on the weekend.

Well, it is a primarily a music festival...and if you stay up until 6am to watch the sunrise, then go for a nap and miss some bands, you should really just be down the road at Stonehenge for the summer solstice.
I've never seen the sunrise from the top of the hill....it's always been 8/8ths cloud cover!!
