Girl murdered by 18 year old......
Discussion
Now sure if this is PC or not but sod that....
Earlier I listened to an interview with the parents of the murdered girl. They laid the blame on the CJS in that they were unaware that there were concerns about the previous conduct of the 18 year old.
The thing that I couldn't quite understand is why let your 10 year old daughter play with an 18 year old of the opposite sex?
It seems that people are always looking for other people to blame when things go wrong. I wonder what the parents were up to at the time that their daughter was being suffocated upstairs.
When they look at themselves in the mirror every morning, they are looking at the people who are MOST interested in the ongoing welfare of their OWN child.

I believe this occurred at a "family and friends" gathering / party, where the girl had ventured upstairs for a short while and was followed into a room by the guy concerned. She wasnt "left to play" with him as such.
The other occurences listed on the BBC website are scary and happened over a number of years. I cant believe that, for example, the parents of the 15 year old girl kidnapped and tied up by him didnt follow through with the police... family friends or not, someone did that to my sisters they would be facing the FULL weight of the law, or a visit from Mr. Pickaxe handle should that prove fruitless.

One of the common characteristics of Aspergers Syndrome people IME is that they quite often seem "younger" than their real age ; more naive, more childish.
It wouldn't suprise me that someone ASD wanted to play with a 10 year old.
At the risk of sounding woolly, one wonders what was in place for this young man. I know young people who are equally "dangerous" if not dealt with appropriately ; and in many cases they aren't dealt with appropriately.

In this situation, I believe both sets of parents were downstairs while the death was occuring upstairs.
My children are MY responsibility. Period. I can't understand why others aren't the same.

I haven't seen the news item that this is referring to, so perhaps my lack of comprehension of the above remark is due to a lack of context. But my instinctive response is - why not? I wasn't a murderous danger to 10-year-old girls when I was 18. Nor, I suspect, were most people. Indeed, plenty of 18-year-olds babysit other peoples' 10-year-olds.
Listening to Radio 4's Today program...they were highlighting the previous incidents involving the defendant...
One of them was a similar incident where he had tied up a young girl and then let her go. The police had arrested him and charged him with kidnapping and assault. However, the girl and her family decided not to pursue the case.
The important thing was that they are now complaining that the police didn't try to persuade them otherwise!!!
Will nobody accept fooking blame for their own actions nowadays..?

I've read a number of news stories about this incident. Even given that the media distorts things it is clear that this sick young man should never leave secure institutional custody ever again.
As to what blame the parents of the killer or victim share my view is little.
And I am sure for what small part in the blame they do share they will torture themselves for the rest of their lives.
Justice done.
But lets see if the 18 year old does indeed remain incarcerated until either "cured" or, if not curable, his death.

If this is the case, these people have a massive amount of personal reconciling to do with themselves.
I would find it difficult to live a normal life, and it seems their complaining illustrates their attempt to offload the guilt they must be feeling.
If the parents of the victim had no knowledge of the 18year olds past actions or condition then I cannot see what they did wrong.
The parents of the 18 year old on the other hand, must have known about his past actions and warned or prevented visitors being alone with him.
Nevertheless for his and others safety he should be under strict care for the rest of his days.

I seem to remember reading that this 18 year old was related in some way or the families had been friends for some time.
That being the case - all concerned must have known that this boy had a problem - both with the Aspergers and his ability to mix mit others - regardless of age.
Let us just say - that had this party been going on in my household und this lad was guest - then no way would any young child been allowed to play unsupervised mit ihm. No disprespect to those caring for poor person afflicted with something as awful as Aspergers or autism - but common sense would dictate to me that extra care would be required.

They are feeling guilty and responsible for this little girl's death. Police are scapegoat upon which to purge their deepest feeling of guilt.
Perhaps yet another friend of this family - and misplaced loyalty and frienship that to pursue the case would add to their troubles and trauma of coping mit Aspergers sufferer.
Perhaps further advice and counselling may have helped them make a decision ... who knows. Maybe they thought that they would be placing their little one into traumatic situation such as court of law - where even mit video link - it is ordeal - und since she was "very arguably" not "hurt" ....(und of course - the little girl in question would have been very hurt and humiliated by this incident)....would have been difficult decision perhaps at time and they are inconsolable about making the wrong one....
A very nasty and very sad, tragic case for all concerned - including the boy who killed.

I used to work with a young man who I could perceive as doing the same sort of thing.
There is little comprehension of "other people". When we did sex education with him he was fixed to the idea that sex with a woman was something you got on your 16th birthday as a sort of add on to your birthday cake, and that the woman didn't really have much say in the matter.... correcting this was difficult.
ASD people quite often are aware that they are supposed to be doing *something* with the opposite sex ; the hormones still work the same. They just don't quite know what and it's quite easy for them to head off in the wrong direction ; this however is extreme.

Well I have never found it difficult to take responsibility for either my own or my kids actions.
