ok a family member wants a ford focus estate, in the approx value range of £5k. What's the low down on engines? They don't do hugh mileage but live in wales so getting around is a fair mileage. Personally I would stick with petrol as I don't like diesel costs with the way they go wrong (IMO). I've asked them but they aren't fussed either way.

I previously had a ford focus 1.8tdci so I should know better than anyone! but it had a replacement turbo (under warrenty fortunately as it cost a fortune); and the dual mass flywheel was on it's last legs when I part-exed it, also it always seemed to chuck out loads of st when you floored it, so I wouldn't get one again myself. But I have no idea what petrol engines they have? are they 1.8? any good?

any advice? (they require an estate car)

We have the 2.0 petrol duratec unit in a 2006.

It's a strong engine. Lovely delivery of power. 30 urban and 42 on a run at 70

Definitely would buy another. Chain driven too.
