Ok chaps...simple starter for 10...

If a set of cams have been "profiled by Joe Bloggs"...what exactly has Joe done?

Has he made them, machined them, provided drawings?

What does it mean?

Many thanks

Normally 'Joe' would be the tuner who over a period of time has experimented with said engine and found that a cam with a certain lift, overlap, duration etc etc works best for a certain vehicle or task.
Very rarely would he be a cam manufacturer. He just specifies the cam parameters and gets the cam manufacturer to grind it for him. The well known 885 cam would be an example. I don't know who the 'Joe' is in this case but the cam is made/ground by Kent Cams but you can't buy it from them as it is a custom grind.

Is your new engine not running as anticipated?

For LS engines you can get a cam specified, you give them intake tract length, exhaust header length and diameter, gearing, weight, desired power band, even how you want the idle to sound, you then get a build sheet to give to the cam manufacturer.
I have had this done twice for different capacity motors.

So as part of your build did you specify bespoke cam profiles?

Yes, ideally you want it to be the last thing you do, as you spec the cam (or have some one spec it for you) once you know where you are with all the bits around it, other things too, like valve sizes, intake and exhaust port sizes and volume...
Here is my latest spec advise after i filled in a form, and he then specs a cam, costs $25.00..

ETA, but if your build is a known quantity, then they know what works already, but mine is a very unique engine, hence the bespoke cam.

TVR Cerbera 1998 w/forged 11.5:1 416 short block, 65cc Dart Pro 225 heads, .054 gasket, KINSLER ITB 8X 55MM, 1 3/4 long tube headers w/no cats, manual trans, 3.08 rear gear, 6800 rpm shift points, 7200 rpm rev limiter.
246/250 .629/.629 110 LSA +2 advance (with 1.7 ratio rockers)
EPS ET/ET lobes on 8620 steel 3 bolt cam core
EPS46-2/EPS50-2 HR110 LSA +2 advance (108 installed intake centerline)

Cam Valve Events .050" .050"
Intake Duration 246 Intake Valve opens 15 BTDC (- indicates ATDC)
Exhaust Duration 250 Intake Valve closes 51 ABDC
Lobe Seperation Angle 110 Exhaust Valve Opens 57 BBDC
Intake Centerline 108 Exhaust Valve Closes 13 ATDC (- indicates BTDC)
Exhaust Centerline 112
Overlap 28 degrees

Brummie thanks for the detailed answer.

Davey did you spec your own cams in your recent build?

It's not that different to what's in it, just less LSA so I'm not going to bother, I have just got some LS 9 injectors instead.
