hi folks, just been told that my diff is shot today by tvr in melton. does anyone know where i can either get a recon one or get this repaired cos as usual tvr wants mega bucks, is this something i can get from an old ford at the scrapyard?

Try a search on the site. There are a few people doing it but expect a wait if they are any good.
Before you decide, let me know who it is first as there is 1 person i would not use.

TVR had some brand new GKN diffs that were actually quite reasonable in terms of price. They are becoming very difficult to source elsewhere.

Not sure about the BTR ones.

Are you sure it's not repairable? I had a diff which was "juddering". TMS told me I needed a new one. As the car was 14 months old I said fine, but who's paying? cos I ain't. They then decided that it was repairable, & at no cost to me.

Another vote here for Bernie at CTS. I took my car down to him and let him drive it (It had a persistent 'clunk', though no apparent loss of performance). We talked through the options -mine didn't actually need a rebuild - but I chose to get a partial rebuild anyway, and had the bushes replaced (Joospeed) whilst the diff was out.

The car drives completely differently now. I don't really have the right vocabulary to describe it, but it seems as if power uptake is much crisper. It's certainly more fun

If Bernie says you need a new diff, then mail me offline - I've heard where there's a source for recon diffs but they don't want it widely known.

The clunk is usually caused by worn diff bushes not the diff.
The CV joints are the next to go.
