Suggest a decent digital photos organizing program

Hi Guys.

For a few years now I've been managing my digital photos by using the My Pictures program which came with WindowsXP. Worked fine, for what I want, which is quite simply to be able to delete photos, rearrange them, and rename them, without any hassle.

Computer's now kaputt, and the replacement runs Windows 7. My Pictures on Windows 7 works in almost the same way as on WindowsXP - with the crucial exception that it won't allow you to rearrange the pictures (God knows why not). As far as I'm concerned that renders the program completely useless.

I've tried using the program Picasa instead, but I found it utterly frustrating, to the point of wanting to inflict random violence on innocent members of my family.

So can anybody recommend another downloadable photo-organizing program?

As I mentioned, all I want to do is easy deleting, reorganizing and renaming. Not the least bit interested in Photoshop-type manipulations of the actual images themselves.

I use Media Pro which would do everything you want, it might however be overkill.

Give Faststone a try. It will allow you to do what you want, plus much more, including raw conversion and PP. I use it always on my Windows laptop, but sadly it's not compatible on my Mac. One big bonus it's free, but you can make a donation, if you want.

.... You wouldn't buy LR *just* for sorting stuff, although it is very easy to get it sorting stuff just whichever way you want it to....

I'd buy Lightroom for that function alone. The keywording, collections, metatag functions, preview options, renaming options, sort options and intuitive use are worth the money without any of the other loveliness it does.
