I am seriously considering a new Boxster S which will be used everyday (circa 8000 miles per annum) as well as 4 to 5 trackdays per annum and I have done many trackdays over the years and I like to press on a bit. So far the only option I have decided upon is a manual box and probably 20 inch wheels but which of the other options (PASM, PTV, Sport Chrono etc.) do you think I should go for?

The used Spyder option?

Seriously, for that type of use it would be perfect.

There is a sports suspension option for the 981 which may assist on track days? Other than that it's largely about personal taste and budget.

as above, the Sports sus option with buckets seats.

but if you like to press on a bit and enjoy real driving, not the right car imo, the new cars gone a bit 911 like, more about comfort etc

if you like nice steering this might be the deciding factor

here is a you tube vid of my test drive lol

steering is a bag of st, no matter what the lovers say ,imo it's bloody awefull.
and the jurno's said it's better than the 991 lol
Others love it, but I think they have forgot what steering is, I guess you get used to it if you own one.

people joke at me saying it's gone all Audi, but no kidding my TT had more feel.

on a plus point in the summer if you sneeze at least you will still be going totally straight, unlike a client of mine who sneezed and put herself in a ditch.

with a dead spot as big as this you can sneeze all you like lol.

The roof is indeed the killer with the Spyder although curiously it also makes the car more of an event.

Depends on the use the car is to be put to I suppose.

For multiple hard track days a year, a 981S wouldn't be my first choice of Porsche for £50k+ lovely as they are.

981 S is the perfect daily driver and excellent on track, just ignore the spyder fanbois, they should spend more time driving a less time talking them up on forums IMO. The steering is fine, it's not as good as it was but hey it's not going away so u gotta get used to it.

Options wise, pasm, sports seats plus, 20's and Pse all the way... Oh and the new blue can't remember the name looks stunning smile

So, the "fanbois" are basically right but you should ignore them...

981 is a miles better daily driver than a Spyder but the OP only wants to do low annual mileage and lots of hard track days.

What's up with the steering?

Don't tell me you turn the wheel right and the car goes left!

I translated the op's post as avert are annual milage and a few trackdays, no whee does it say "hard" and 4-5 isn't even one every 2 months....

The steering on my 1978 escort has loads more feedback than most of the cars from the last decade, but I don't spend all my day banging on about it on PH like the spyder fanbois lol

Although I have a Spyder, I wouldn't know good steering feedback even if was giving me a blow job.

Apart from the options mentioned by others, I've got PTV. 95% of the time you don't know it is there but when accelerating hard from corners, it is noticeable and worthwhile. The lateral grip, traction and feel are all improved near the limit.

You do *not* want PTV if you're going to do track days - you'll go through rear brakes like crazy. If you want toys that drive the car for you, buy a GTR. And are you sure you want 20" wheels on a track car? Have you looked at the price of tyres - and availability?

My 997 Turbo has good steering feedback but then I jump in my 360 and it is in a different league. Didn't Clarkson once comment that if you ran over an ant in a 360, that you could tell if it was male or female? biggrin

PASM.

Incidentally, if you like the tart's boudoir look go for full leather; however, the standard dash looks and feels fine.
