Alarm/Immobilser help needed.
Discussion
Anyone advise?
Have had a problem with immobilser for a while that is overcome by hitting underneath the dash to start.
Now the problem is unsafe and embarassing. While driving, the car just shuts down on both ignition and fuel (rev counter drops to zero). When I pull up I have to de-immobilise it. Sometimes it will only run for a few seconds, sometimes all the way home. But the alarm goes off while driving it. Now it's happening more often.
The question is, immobilser unit or relays? If the relays, are these available or is it a new unit? Or worse, a new alarm system.
Your help please.

Carl Baker is your man for TVR alarm/immobiliser problems. Although he now only operates out of Taylor TVR in Kent (and has moved to live in France!) he will be happy to give you advice on the 'phone. Lots of posts on here about the same problems so do a search and Google Carl for his details.

Thanks for quick answers.
Tried the disconnecting of battery before, no improvement. I'm in West Yorks so a more convenient alarm specialist may be better, although Carl is highly regarded on this forum. Without TVR specialist help, (costwise) does anyone know a local alarm type chappie? Or can anyone else enlighten.?
Thanks

Call Carl for a diagnosis, then decide what to do. He will be able to supply you with a replacement bit if that's all that is needed. He's a good guy and friendly. If you get his voicemail leave a message - he calls back after he finishes work. Tried the disconnecting of battery before, no improvement. I think that is what he fitted in my car in February, so it may even just be a bad connection to the immobiliser box, which I think is under the dash top above the passenger's left knee. If you want to have a look, you need a flexible headed 10mm ratchet spanner, and there are two nuts to undo on that side. Undo the glove pouch (two screws) and the flap will hinge down. The nuts are in really bloody awkward positions, oriented 90 degrees differently to each other. You can lift the dash top a little without undoing the driver's side nut, which is a total steward of the bar.
God's own county is particularly large. If you 'appen to be in the south east bit (Doncaster area) and don't know how to get the dash top off, let me know and I can pop up the A1 from east Notts and give you a hand. I do know where the nuts are and have the relevant spanner.....

Sorry, you had already said where you are. Doh!
If I remember correctly, it's a black box and it is obvious. It has 99 written on it, apart from anything else! it should be in the left hand corner.
The nuts are
1. Up behind the dash, the bolt goes through forwards and horizontally, so feel up behind the flat bit and you will find it above the glove pocket.
2. The second bolt goes downwards, much further towards the centre of the car, but much nearer the passenger, so shove your hand into the narrow gap towards the radio once inside the area above the glove box. Call me on 07736 774325 if you cannot find them.
Still think your best option is to speak to Carl. He will know what's wrong.
It may well just be ailing or failing. Or have some dry solder joints on the circuit board.

The basic problem is that the relays in the immobiliser are shot and don't work properly. Sounds like your immobiliser is in a really bad state.Tried the disconnecting of battery before, no improvement. I'm another 'went to see Carl Baker' member so don't have any useful advice for you up north.
