The wife and I are doing this. Anybody else?

5 days in so far, the shakes have gone! First weekend to get through.

I was hoping I was going to be feeling great but still feel fking knackered. Hopefully next will I will start to feel good.

The amount we spend on wine we will be saving enough to clear the 3rd world debt.

If you've had the shakes you're prob alcohol dependent and suffering withdrawal, be careful.

Thanks for your concern, but I was being facetious. Other that feeling tired still I haven't had any negative effects.

After 2 weeks you will feel great - you'll sleep better and generally feel top notch. After a month your first glass of vino will taste like nectar from heaven. I went a month without a drink for a £50 bet (i gave it to Macmillan cos I knew if it was for charity I'd do it) and after a month you taste it properly - tasted great!

keep it up thumbup

Having my first sober weekend in a while I definitely feel the tiredness part. Is that pretty normal then?

I'm not a career alcoholic or anything, so no DTs, but I think I'd actually have more energy on a Sunday morning if I'd been on the piss last night!

Already busted "Sober October" but I might well try and abstain for a couple of weeks to get back in order.

Fully paid up member if the binge drinking club with possibly a few beers in the week here.
I'm doing it but seeing as most of my friends are students/ just come out of uni I'm not getting much luck on the sponsorship side.
I have been tempted a few times already, I will be craving a beer in the evening soon, I'm sure.
Good luck everybody!

I'm in, not had a drink since Sat 21st September (started a weekend early).

I happened to be incredibly hung over all day on the Sunday and noticed my increasing waistline and decided to go on a health kick, my wife told me about "ocsober" and thought I'd give it a go.

It's actually quite depressing, but not in the way I thought it would be. I've more energy, a clearer head and bounce out of bed at 7am in the morning achieving 10 times more than I did when I had had a few....at this rate I'll have to stop drinking altogether.

Also, given the junk I ate after a few the following day plus the cals in alchahol, I've lost tonnes of weight.

Dam it, why does red wine taste so goodbiggrin

I'm on the wagon for Macmillan too.

I'm not feeling any different yet. However I'm finding I'm doing more stuff as I'm not parking my arse on the couch and drinking red wine.

I started in October for too, with Missy Elliott. Was only really having a glass of wine with my meal in the evening but decided to see the difference, if any, it would make. If I'm totally honest I'm slightly disappointed with how I'm feeling. It seems to have made no discernible difference to my training or general well-being (which is pretty good anyway). Generally not had too many cravings although when I've just finished a hard training session and the log burner's roaring, a wine glass filled with beetroot juice doesn't really cut it! Will definitely see the month out without touching a drink, however the first weekend in November I'm out to a dinner party....

Some observations eighteen months in...
1. If you do get a craving it is probably for the sugar your body is used to getting; try a boiled sweet.
2. Nothing in a wine glass cuts it; don't torment yourself.
3. You can pretty much switch the TV off at the wall now, it is all crap.

Best of luck chaps.

Day 11 in the dry 944fan household. Another weekend to contend with. I should also find out today if I have been successful for a new job I went for. The temptation to either drink to celebrate or drink to commiserate will be strong.

I also am starting to feel like I am coming down with something. That always leads me to drink as I think I am going to feel st anyway may as well have one.

Be strong!

Was a Golden Ticket required last weekend?

I stopped last week as my son is due in 3-4 weeks and may need to make a trip to the hospital at short notice. At the weekend I can never usually wake up before 10-11, but this weekend I have been up at 8-8:30 with no problems. I only really drink at the weekends, but feel much more awake at the moment without any alcohol.

I do miss a nice whisky at the weekend though..... frown

Been offshore in Angola since the end of September - so sober the whole time.

That will all change on Wednesday on the flight home though smile

Can I get a "sober for (most of) October badge?"

Coming up to a year off the booze (after reading the Alan Carr book) and can't ever imagine having another drop. As others have said the weight loss, clear head and improved energy levels are fantastic.

I was however puzzled by a Kit Kat craving; I've never had a particularly sweet tooth but I've found I can't stop eating the things. Now all is explained; thank you!

Well, just about 9 days to go, hope everyone's keeping up the good work. Feeling a bit smug as last Friday was out with some training buddies and to be honest I was dreading it, but stuck to my guns and just drunk lemonade all night whilst everyone got merrily pissed! Not had too many cravings since, although last night I could have killed for a glass of red whilst watching the great british bake off (note to self - must avoid watching cookery programmes).

I'm finding it easier than I thought.

Having the odd pang for a glass of red but other than that I'm fine.
