10 plate Cooper S - buying advice needed
Discussion
Hey all,
My OH is looking for a mini and a close friend of the family on her side has offered her his Mini Cooper S on a 10 plate for £8250. It has done 60k miles., its in pepper white. i'm after my fellow PH'ers to tell me if its a good deal or not basically, or is there anything i need to be wary of for a car around this age / mileage. Ive heard rumors of timing chains failing etc
If it helps, he has owned the car from new and comes with the following options.....
Chilli pack/17 inch alloys / Xenon Headlights / Auto Air con / extended interior light package / multi function controls for steering wheel / black bonnet stripes / chrome line interior / Electric glass sunroof / sun protection glass / heated seats / Harmon Kardon Hi-Fi / Bluetooth with USB / Leather lounge-carbon black / extra Fog lights on the front etc.
it will also have the TLC service pack which will be transfered, the person who owns it is a car enthusiast so i know it would have been well taken care of etc, just after your general advice etc,
Thanks

Sounds like it had some good options put on it from new. The timing chain issue can happen at any mileage.
Check for the dreaded death rattle when started from cold.
If you're worried you could factor in a timing tensioner replacement into the price.
The other issue is the coking problem due to the design of the engine, a walnut blast treatment can help with this (check for loss of power as could be an issue with the mileage
