Hi guys... Looking to change my wheels and wondered if anyone has fitted 20" rims? Are 225 fronts and 265 rears the way to go? I have the standard 18" 3R rims at the moment. Thanks.

Why?

The whole point of a Noble is performance and handling.
Increasing the size of the wheel and making the sidewall smaller will decrease the performance and handling.

In short.. Dont do it to a Noble..

Hi Gary
Could be interested in your 3R wheels if your selling.

There was some one who fitted 19" wheels on a noble if I remember correctly, think they were trafficstar or something? Not something I would do personally but each to their own, I suppose it wouldn't be too bad if you just use the car for driving round town.

Type "noble trafficstar" into Google and search images, I think it's the blue noble pictured outside a shop that has 19's fitted.

They are not 19's - the picture has been manipulated in photoshop.

Yes you can fit 19s pretty sure it's been done, 20s would mean rubber bands... BUT my experience from other cars that I've upgraded is that it will negatively effect the handling as the wheels will be a lot heavier and the sidewalls will be stiffer

An extreme example is I took 17s off a car and replaced with 20s the suspension knocked terribly due to the massive amount of extra weight and ride was horrible.... Putting the originals back on transformed it lol

An increase of wheel size could be done, you would need to consider available rubber to suit, a decrease in wall size does NOT necessarily mean you will destroy the cars handling, wall size AND stiffness is key here, taller softer walls will be more forgiving, especially in the wet, conversely shorter stiffer walls will be more precise but less forgiving.
There is also comfort and compliance to think about, stiffer = less comfort (generally)
Then you have aspect ratio to consider, this is complex and will affect the contact patch on the road, different width tyres of the same wheel size will have different contact patch for the same aspect ratio, you will need to research this very carefully indeed, just because you fit wider rubber doesn't mean there will be more contact patch on the road.
One reason for changing may be the rubber available, as time moves on the "Big boys" develop there cars to take bigger rims and therefore tyre manufacturers HAVE to develop bigger better rubber to cope with the inevitable power hikes some of these cars have.
After all this you then need to get you suspension working with your chosen tyre, work out the best tyre pressure for everything to work right.
One thing is for sure, there's no two cars will handle the same regardless of how careful you set them up.
In the end it's how YOU want the car set up for Yourself, if you can find the right combination to suit you then go for it.
ETS. Andy got here before me.
One important thing I didn't mention was un-sprung weight, the lighter the wheel the better, (the lighter the wheel the more expensive)

I can't see that as its in flash, but If it is in the one I'm thinking of, it was a misprint

Your username, "noble lover" is seeming fairly ironic right now. If I could fit 17s I would. Smallest wheels possible for best/standard brakes = best driving experience.

Have a read of this and see what the effect of oversized wheels can have on a car http://www.caranddriver.com/features/effects-of-up...

Chappers....I don't have to be an engineer to appreciate a Noble. I know a lot of you guys on here are all about the engineering and that's great, I appreciate it too. But I also appreciate the beauty of all Nobles and what us Brits can do!
So as a guy who appreciates the beauty over engineering I thought I would ask the guys in the know in this forum their point of view, isn't that' the purpose of forums?!?
So I may not have your geometry knowledge but I can still "love" a thing of beauty and a machine that goes like ####!
I used to race bike at a decent level, but I knew nothing about the mechanical side, just enjoyed racing them! Cheers!

Well then put it this way: if you want it to continue to "go like …####" I suggest you leave the basics of the car be, particularly if you're short on engineering knowledge.

If you're trying to improve looks, 18s already look plenty big enough, sometimes a little large. 20s would make it look like a Hot Wheels toy.

the only advantage of bigger rims is it will increase your top speed

but will reduce your acceleration and tractive effort

something for a full speed run at brunters only
