981 Cayman 2.7 with 16,000 miles on the clock

Glad we're not the only ones that are enjoying just how practical these are.

Almost fell off my (drivers) seat when I saw it go over 40mpg average - admittedly on a long motorway journey with a lot of 50mph average cameras.

Your daily commute must be to the moon and back? 16k in 6 months! I have had mine a sixth of that...........

Took a bit of time getting used to the long gearing, but now I've nailed it. Like having two different cars. You can drive it quite fast but economically....or you can select really low gears at quite high speeds and drive it really fast and watch the mpg drop down to 28...which still isn't too bad.

Sad as it is to admit, I get huge enjoyment out of cleaning it and looking at it!

I loved my 987 Boxster gen1 and my gen 2 Cayman 2.9......but this one...well, I am thinking about popping the big question!

Six days since delivery and 800 mls on the clock. Even restricting the revs it is a fantastic drive. Two points of note, the lights (bi-xenon PDLS) are the best that I have ever driven behind and the ride, on 20s with PASM, is excellent .

Hello Mate, I covered 80,000 plus in my 2.9 in 3 years and was getting 30mpg pretty much all the time. Occasionally on long motorway journeys I would see 32mpg.

To be honest, I wouldn't say the 981 feels that much quicker. It's just different. Probably less torque down below in the 981 2.7, but sounds loads better than the 2.9!!

Is that a PDK or manual car? Got a test drive booked for next Saturday and the fuel consumption could be a decider- 25,000 miles p/a here.

What sort of roads/driving?

We went for PDK and the variation can be quite staggering. Steady on the motorway and mid to high 30s is the norm. Temporary speed limits and some mild entertainment can be had by seeing if you can reach the aformentioned 40mpg.

Twisty roads and a few more revs from using the paddles or sport mode, then something in the 20s is more likely.

That's going by the trip readout rather than petrol receipts.

Get stuck in London traffic and all bets are off.

Daily return commute consists of 10 miles heavy urban and 80 miles of brisk motorway, might try and replicate some of it in the test drive as dealer is close by. Does the PDK include a stop start function?

It's a manual, mate. Just got back from a weekend trip from Suffolk over to the Cotswolds. A mixture of Motorway and A roads going pretty steady gave me 36mpg.

Thanks, sounds encouraging. My Audi (diesel)does 38mpg on the outbound leg and 42 on the return leg (different routes) so if it performs within a reasonable equivalent then it opens the opportunity. Bit of an eye opener compared to the nearly 60mpg from a Golf GTD I've recently tried but horses for courses and all that.
