Does anyone know if West Yorkshire police are being used as the source for a police, camera, action type programme at the moment? Twice in the last couple of days I have seen cars on the hard shoulder with police cars nearby and in addition to the police chatting to the occupant of the car there has been someone with a large video camera pointing into the car - it looks like a broadcast size camera rather than a police recording but not sure.

Thanks - thought it must be that but hadn't ever seen it before at the side of the motorway. Hopefully will never be in the situation but not sure how I would feel about being filmed whilst talking to the Police. Do you get a choice?

No, camera crews can film anything they like in a public place.

Are you concerned it might affect your scrap metal business? Thats the reason most gypsies have their faces blurred on the "My big fat gypsy _______" series hehe

If only - all that income, tax free. Wonderful business wink

More seriously, it would probably be even more off putting then a simple discussion of an issue with the Police knowing that you were being filmed for public consumption. And also, your point about filming anything you like in a public place is interesting given the propensity of the Police to not allow members of the public to film them.

They can film in a public place but they cant infringe on your privacy. I realise that the cameras presence/intrusion is always bullishly defended by the police officers, but theyre not the first people Id seek legal counsel from.

Can you expect privacy in public? No, but I think that being questioned in public, or worse searched, certainly takes you out of 'clear cut' and into 'mire'.

I believe that Article 8 of the HRA and Article 10 (used by the media companies) both come into play.
