Re-Trim Phase #1
Discussion
Well folks just brought my car home from The Trim Technician in Blackpool following part #1 of the car's re-trim
Work done..
New hood, new screen, dash changed to copper leather, centre console to copper leather (matches the MX5 seats), Dark Grey Alcantara screen surrounds, roof hoop, dash top and gaiters.. Also some rather special Alcantara targa panel covering..
I hope you like it.. personally I love it.. just need to save up for the door cards and remaining carpet.. John kindly did the transmission tunnel already to save dismantling it when I go back..
Oh and dash inserts from silver to shiny black.. new seals all round.. (now much quieter on motorway..) oh steering wheel re-trim and some hood bags phew...
Lots of pics here : www.n3s.co.uk/tvr
Some tasters here..

Thanks
Damian S3 (its a work in progress but coming together..)

Thanks for the comments.. I just love it sooooo much.
Re 24v swap yes still on cards my eBay engine is in a sad state so weighing up rebuild vs another engine costs.
Does anyone know the width if the s3 engine bay?
Re fitting yes it should drop straight in with some wiring in of Granada engine loom BOA is easiest.
Many have done just this but the type 9 gearbox could be a problem.
You will need exhaust header too.
Mine will have a cosworth T5 with mustang bell housing Magpies has used a mt75. Obviously doing this adds to the cost.
Hope that helps a little
Cheers Damian

Mmmm.. trim porn!
Damian, that looks proper classy, John's craftsmanship is superb.
It will feel like you have got a new car!
Good luck with the rest of your project.
PS. If John has got a small offcut of alcantara, perhaps you could get him to post it off to Longers, he seems to like it - a lot!
Won't be long before he'll be out & about on his bike clad from head to foot in alcantara
Is that better or worse than lycra?
PPS. GET SOME CLIPS ON THOSE TARGA PANELS!
Wouldn't want you to lose them.

If I did mine again I would probably stick with the Type 9 box but put a Quaife / TranX or similar close ratio gearset in (straight cut which although noisy will take more power/torque) and will give MUCH better ratios. and wouldn't be vastly dearer. For the road only a good Type 9 would probably be fine.Re 24v swap yes still on cards my eBay engine is in a sad state so weighing up rebuild vs another engine costs.

So...tech...now that you have had it for about 3 or so weeks, how you like it? I am thinking of the full interior in Alcantara (black and grey).

I really love it.. Makes me smile each and every time I am in there.. Anything is possible but not sure you could go all Alcantara see the detail on my roof has black leather too.
Re price Alcantara is a brand and you should have NO wear problems however fake suade can be suspect and stands up to less wear. Alcantara is almost 3 x the price of leather though so it adds up. Also real Alcantara has the word Alcantara printed on the back of it. Go to the Alcantara web site for more info.
I am getting the door cards done soon
Hope this helps
