If in doubt - don't risk it!
Discussion
Following on from my previous post regarding my front splitter, I now have a picture of the piece of metal responsible for the violent crime!
I am still shocked when looking at this picture as the slope is really non-existent and the metal thing in the floor doesn't look high enough to present a problem. But it did.
So this is a warning to you all - DON'T RISK IT, even on something that appears to be quite small.

Zod, I'm actually getting a new one fitted this time, but I am keeping the old one as 'spare' which I can repair and mend later if it happens again.
I have spoken to these guys: www.carbonfibrerepair.com and they reckon they can repair it to a VERY high standard where you wouldn't really notice it had been mended unless you looked for it.
Email from them:
"We would plan to re-skin that side of the splitter completely, and we can maintain the direction of the weave. We would then completely re-lacquer the splitter to get the surface finish right. Generally when we conduct repairs like this it is very difficult to pick out the original area of damage. Aesthetic carbon repair is a difficult process and it is not possible to get it absolutely 100% in terms of surface finish without a mould, but it won't be noticeable enough for somebody to pick out the repair without knowing that it was done."

As I'm going to be using mine as my daily driver I'm thinking of buying a plastic one like on the new V8V and having it wrapped in carbon look. Sure on close inspection you'll be able to tell, but it shouldn't look out of place.
Anyone else done that or thought of it? £500 sounds better than £3500 or whatever for the speed bump finder.

Were you over to one side when it hit?? I'm confused as with a narrow ish gap, I'd have expected the damage to have been more towards the centre of the splitter.....
Yes. The angle of the drive means you come in on the right side (as per yellow arrow) not straight (as per black arrow).
The front splitter (marked in red) shows it to be off to one side coming in at that angle.

That is very annoying. I presume the owner of the property used to be a friend of yours.
No, we had hired this big country home for my Mum's 60th, lovely place though http://www.uniquehomestays.com/unique/details.asp?...So I had never been there before.
