As time goes on family become more difficult to buy presents for so what I am thinking of doing is organising a cheap weekend break for them after Chrimbo somewhere in the South West.

Anyone got any reccomendations?

Beware of the speed humps-loads on the road to Carlyon Bay before you even tackle the hotels drive

Falmouth Hotel is very nice.

Should be, my wedding reception is there on Friday.

Seriously, although I live in Cornwall, I have stayed there a few times (for nights away with the (now) wife). Food is very good, the hotel overlooks Falmouth Bay and exec rooms have a jacuzzi.

The website shows panoramic views of rooms, restraunts etc. . . www.thefalmouthhotel.com

Has anyone stayed at the Headland hotel in Newquay?

I'm thinking of taking the birdfriend there for our anniversary.

Recommended?

Very nice thank you.

Had an Afro Carribean band. The closest thing we could find Kenyan music, where we got married.

They went down much better than the average wedding disco!!!

Looked there for our reception. Downstairs is excellent, food is supposed to be good, yet we chose the Falmouth Hotel due to the size of the rooms, facilities and the friendly atmosphere.

Some rooms have jaccuzzi baths (for 2) and room service do nice strawberries and champagne.

I have heard the Victoria Hotel in Newquay is good, but I've only every been in the function room etc. Oh yeh, and Berties Nightclub is next door, if that's your scene.

Is it Newquay you want to stay?

Thanks for the response Mark!

She lives just outside Newquay and I was planning on doing the "we'll go somewhere nice for dinner" routine without telling her I've booked a room. Should collect several brownie points for this all being well!

For that reason I was looking in Newquay as if we went further afield she'd guess we were staying.

Thanks again for the info though, I think I'll book the room tonight!
