My wife has an MX5 and now wants a Z4.

Her main complaint about the MX5 is lack of power. The MX5 and our Mondeo have similar power outputs (150bhp), but the Mondeo seems more powerful, so probably has better low end torque. We both notice the difference when swapping cars.

The Z4 in 2ltr guise is also 150bhp so how does it feel to drive compared to an MX5 (or even a Mondeo) of similar power?

I know there are 2.5 and 3.0 options on the Z4, but this is a car which gets driven 5 miles to work each way, so a 200bhp V6 is probably not the best option!

Also is there anything I should be looking for or avoiding when buying a Z4? Its likely to be a long term car, so want to buy the right car first time smile

Supercharge the mx5, job jobbed wink. Also how would a bigger engined z4 not be good for the short commute you have?

She wants other things, like a power roof leather interior etc. Our current MX is starting to rust now, so its time to change.

On the big engine short commute issue, its the fact the car will hardly get warm. The 6 cylinder cars use quite a bit more fuel that the 4 cylinder, so that will be magnified when cold. Also its all stop start, so will be accelerating alot.

For someone who doesn't care about cars, my wife wants more power, and has a lead foot smile

Sounds like she'd prefer the diesel milf floats like SLK250 or the Audi TT TDI.

The 2.0 Z4 is gutless. The 6 cylinder ones are lovely but you've talked yourself out of that.

To compare the cars really you need to look at the torque curves - should be easy to find on google.

But I suspect all 4 cyl 150ish bhp sportscars have less low down so your solution is a diesel or a bigger engine or rev the sportscar.
