Hi all,
I am hoping you could give me some advice, I notice various threads about this so I am guessing its not a common problem nor with a hard and fast answer.
I have just bought a 06 plate Aston with 20k on the clock which has been garaged all its life.
Both door handles are blistering the paint and the rear arches are covered in stonechips.
I have spoken with my local dealership in Edinburgh who via Aston have offered £250 towards the repainting. The bill is still £1000.
They say that this is not covered under the corrosion warranty for the handles as there is no holes in the paint as it is something that has reacted with the atmosphere and the paint. I find this hard to believe as if this was the case it would not have happened to so many other cars! Also as there are no holes in the paint surely that means that the reaction has come from between the aluminium of the door and the paint?
The rear arches have both got the stone protective film of but definately they do not go high enough!! As Aston have changed these to go higher surely they have recognised that the current films do not protect the right area and should repaint them and fit the newer films?
All in all I just wanted to know if i was wrong feeling a little frustrated with Aston for being only offered £250? Or should I be delighted at this and just get the job done? How have others had this resolved? Try a different dealer or go straight to Aston?
Many thanks for your help guys and I appreciate if someone could point me in the right direction......

Don't have time to look for the best one, but if you google "aston martin paint bubbling" the top results are pistonheads. Click more from pistonheads and there are loads of threads.
Different people have had different resolutions, but if you dig through them you'll see the ways it has gone and maybe see the best way to approach it for what you want to happen.

Don't put him through that, I clicked on it and remember how infuriating that one was. 1st question did you buy for a dealer?
stone chips happen, any hope of getting that covered under warrenty is well non existent really, thats just wear and tear on a 7 year old vehicle, mine has now covered 14k and has the same, ill be getting these sorted soon.
the handle issue is well documented and you have had the standard aston £250 goodwill gesture, you will not get any more out of aston for this, however if you recently purchased from your dealer they MAY put too, mine did as i hadnt had the car long, so aston contributed £250, Stratsone contributed a similar amount and i funded the rest.

I contacted AM customer services directly and did not involve an AM dealer since I did not buy my car from an AM dealer.
AM customer services offered 250, but I did indeed get a much improved offer on that sum.
I also dealt with the same AM approved bodyshop in Edinburgh that the OP is using

On a seven year old car I doubt you would find a better outcome than the one you have described however from the different outcomes alluded to on this site the decision making process in the past, except for AML customer service has seemed geographical baronial.
Personally I'd get the job done, move on and enjoy your new car.
That said given the issues about QC on new cars you might getter better traction than previously enjoyed by owners with AML wanting to reduce the back ground noise in this respect and provide a quiet solution. No doubt the bean counters have provided a budget and strategy if this is the case....
Best of luck

Just had my offside rear arch painted due to the dreaded paintwork problem for 180 .....I can nearly always tell when a cars had paint but this small paint shop on the Wirral has done a superb job (he also painted the black plastic bits in the front valance for free) .......Aston wanted 800

Hang on, 750 for the doors AND rear arches to be painted? I'd bite their hand off. If just the doors, someone will do the job for 500-600, although 8tech can get it done for 3.50 he says.
I can't believe someone has asked if stone chips are covered under a warranty. Gobsmacking.
I agree with your comment about stone chips.I can't believe someone has asked if stone chips are covered under a warranty. Gobsmacking.
The problem for me is that some here are conflating completely different expectations.
I never intended stone chips, wear and tear and other problems one might expect from a car several years old to be part of the inquiry.

By several you mean over 7 years? Several years would be covered by the new car warranty. OP: I'm in Edinburgh if you need me to have a look but to be honest, especially on a 2006 car; just get down to a paint shop you trust and have it all sorted. Argue about the paint bubbles if you want but lots of Aston's have them and Aston don't often pay out on old cars. For the sake of probably sub 500 to have all it sorted it's a drop in the ocean of running an Aston.
