I'm currently having a '68 Fastback restored by a company in Devon. The car is complete and has been MoT'd, but they are having problems registering the car with the DVLA (it's never been registered in the UK before). They have been told by the DVLA that, because the Certificate Of Title they have is a photocopy and not an original, they need a letter from Ford USA confirming date of manufacture based on the VIN! However, they have also been told that a letter from an official of the UK Mustang Owners Club will suffice. Hence, I am trying to register on the MOCGB website, but in the meantime can anyone give me contact details for someone in MOCGB who is eligible to do this?

Alternatively, because I have the VIN, I can apply for a "Marti report" online. From what I can tell, Marti Auto Works are effectively licensed by Ford USA to publish details from their historic production database. Do you think a Marti report would be accepted by the DVLA?

Any advice would be appreciated...

DVLA won't accept a Marti report but they will accept a letter from the American auto club UK. I will email you the details of the fellow to phone/email but he's a bugger to get hold of and triple any time frames he offers you!

I recently wanted a valuation for my mustang for my Insurance company. I tried the MOCGB site which I am a member of and they referred me to a "contact" in the club mag. The contact I phoned had stopped doing valuations, so I asked the club again and was referred to the contact again. So there's every chance you may hit a wall, like myself.

In the end I went to Bill Shepherd Mustangs and spoke with David there, who, once I emailed him the details, contacted my insurance company. He was very helpful and comes highly recommended. Could he possibly advise you ?

Thanks for the tips, chaps. I'm making slow progress with MOCGB, so maybe I'll try another route. Will definitely need a valuation too, once the car is registered and on the road. Might well take it down to David at Bill Shepherd Mustang - I've spoken to him before and he seemed quite helpful.

Can I ask which company is doing the work in Devon and how pleased with them are you? I have recently acquired a '68 fastback and need some one to service etc. As I live in Devon they may be very convenient.

The company is actually called Devon Cool Campers - they specialise in VW Camper conversions and Mustangs is just their sideline. But they use Newberry Road Garage in Georgeham for the mechanical work - speak to Mick there who is very knowledgeable on Mustangs and Yanks in general, having restored a few.
