First time drivers custom cars

Post pics and descriptions of your custom cars, I'm coming up to the age of 17 where I'm going to buy and hopefully customised a car, so can I see your cars thanks.

Most folk here drive production cars, some of which are modified. For custom cars you probably want a hot rod forum or something.

What model of car are you looking to get? Have you got insurance quotes for that car with your planned modifications?

Nah this one tottaly untouched by modsapart from some speakers I mean I had a exhaust couple of times but I have only had boot builds and wheels

Both of which are declareable mods. They may not increase your premium (unlikely as they are a bigger draw to thieves). It gives the insurance co a reason not to pay out if you have been inaccurate/untruthful on your insurance contract.

My advice for a new driver looking for an interesting car would be to get an older 'classic' and develop your skills on making the car really tidy then practice some effective mods when they become affordable on insurance. Don't batter a shopping hatch with the Barry stick.

My advice would be to agree with this, and emphasise that it's people like Jez0099 who give people who modify cars a bad name.

Indeed. And Jez0099 also helps to increase insurance premiums for everyone when he writes his car off into someone else with his invalid insurance

I turned 17 three weeks ago, yesterday I shed a tear as the insurance premium for a 1.0 litre unmodified Toyota Yaris came back as approx. £7000... I think you're in for a shock

wrong toyota, sell the yaris and buy and Aygo as both my eldest kids have had these as their first cars and insurance was 1k per year.

...and I think you need to look harder!

What I mean by this is that you should phone some specialists and get off the comparison websites (if you haven't already done so!)

My friend has got lots of undeclared mods and I'm just waiting for the day that he crashes and gets the book thrown at him.

I ran a 2.0 Zetec turbo undeclared in an RS1800 shell for a few months. Didn't like the thought of being caught so sold it after not wanting to pay £2500 all mods declared.

If anyone thinks they won't find out, my mate had his bonnet lifted by traffic cops on a 1.4 carb escort because it had an RS2000 bonnet...they thought there might have something extra under there

Specialists? Any more info? Apart from Ingenie, I already know about them.

I also live in Manchester, 10 miles from Oldham and 40 from Bradford...

Bell were the cheapest for me when i was a bit younger, good if you have low ncb but make sure you take note of the high excess chrages....

What about it? If he crashes into them, then they are still covered. It's the undeclared oik who isn't!
