Just spotted this

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Marcos-Mantis-M70-Rare-B...

Yes, it hit every branch of the ugly tree, then climbed back up for another go but how does something so ugly and ungainly end up looking so alluring.

Wife has offered to leave me if I just arrange to view it so it's win win.

I know old Marcos's fetch serious money these days but sanity and the price tag should keep my marriage safe for now.

Shame they never did the Mantis with a wooden chassis.

Too ugly for me. My ugly wants stop at the original Lotus Europa and the Daimler SP250.

It is an ugly car, but ugly in the best possible way, whatever that is. I like it.

They actually look much better in a dark colour.

Coo! I like cars which are unusual but that is something else!

You're a braver man than I.

Very rare thing.

Dennis Adams design, iirc.

There was a kit car continuation in the 80s, the Autotune Mirage.

I like it in red.

I wonder what it's like to drive?

I know a bit about this, owning a Dart.
My current wish list has on it, in no particular order, Austin Atlantic, Standard Vanguard Phase 1, a Panhard Dyna and possibly a Cyclops Rover.
The Austin, I kid myself could have Healey 3000 underpinnings and engine.
The Standard looks great but has no improvement potential whatsoever.
I love the Panhard, even if it is only 850cc, on the grounds of minimalism.
The ugly factor for me lies in the wacky looks, not the incorrect proportions category that offend the eye like the Mantis along with the Bond Equipe, TVR Tasmin and lots of 1970's rubbish.
The Lotus Eclat is growing on me.

I just had a look at the add, yep that is definitely an acquired taste! Having said that the interior is lovely, which genuinely surprised me.

Well, you either get it or you don't.

At almost 15k, I can't bring myself to think of going to look at it but I can't help but like the idea of owning it, if for no other reason that it's so ugly it's beautiful.
