After nearly setting my brakes on fire yesterday, and because they dont feel that brilliant in normal use I am toying with the idea of up rating the brakes on my 350. Is it the princess 4pots and vented disks just like an escort? Or are there any other sensibly priced options. I don't really want cf pads on a road car

Cheers, that's pretty much what I thought of as the budget mod.

You can fit the Granada caliper that goes with the vented disc as it has a bigger pad than the cortina caliper but is only a single piston caliper early p100 had the bigger calipers if you can find one

Another even cheaper upgrade is to get some different pad material - I like Mintex 1144, others use Greenstuff. Of course, you can combine the two, too.

Thanks Guys.

I will start saving so I can do the upgrade before I take her on track again.
I was really worried they were actually going to catch fire when I came off track the first time, massive plumes of smoke out of both fronts.

I'm running 2.8 granada vented discs, standard M16 calipers with a Rallydesign vented spacer kit, and Ferodo DS2500 pads, front and rear.

Brake performance is staggeringly good.
Ensure firstly that your rear brakes are in good shape. Although they only do 20% of the braking, without them, your front brakes efficiency is theoretically reduced by 40%.

(The view from New Zealand from ex-pom)

Oz2 - I have only seen one Granada here in NZ and it was the later one with different brakes.

The ordinary calipers are M16, which were fitted to Cortinas, some Triumphs (not the saloons), but I don't think the straight six (TE and TF ?) Cortinas had these calipers, so may be an unique Oz based upgrade there ?

Anyway, I understand that one of the older Toyota utes has a 4 pot caliper which fits the ordinary non-vented disc perfectly, but not sure which model.

I think the P100 utes I've seen here in NZ are Sierra based ones, which have different brakes (and of course all the bigger utes are Falcon based)

No idea if the older Falcons may have useable swop bits, might be...

If you weren't actually get brake fade, just brakes on fire, then probably worth trying uprated pads front and back. I've used Ferodo DS2500 for years, road and track. In addition, get braided hoses all round, and flush the fluid using something decent - myself I go for a Motul race fluid. Only if that doesn't work would I consider changing rotors / calipers.

They were getting pretty hot, and getting a lot less effective but that might just have been the heat.
Probably best to try new pads before I spend too much cash then smile
