Hello,

A friend of mine is considering the Cat bypass on his 1990 Carrera 4.

It costs around £1000 and is supposed to increase BHP and of course the sound.

Anyone done this or know of anyone who has?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Tks,
BVH

My car had this done before I bought it, sounds great but not sure if there are any hp gains.

£1000 is very steep for just a by-pass, as a pipe only costs around £250.

My 89 car had this mod. It sounded fantastic, particarly going through 3,500 rpm when the note changed dramatically. DIfficult to tell with the power though I have driven a few since and they felt considerably less pokey, but as all were 100k plus cars its difficult to put this down to the exhaust.

You could have a cat bypass, secondary silencer bypass (j-pipe), filter and rolling road rechip for approx 700 GBP.

Just the j-pipe sounds great and only costs 100 GBP.

1000 GBP seems extremely pricey.

Don't know about non turbo cars, but from memory some of the Rennlisters noticed a decrease in power with the cat by pass on turbos.

£1000!!! Is it a gold cat bypass with diamond encrusted brackets!!!

Who has quoted this - let us know so we can steer clear.

£1000 is way too much just for the cat bypass, even fitted. The pipe comes in about £250, and it's an hour or so labour to fit. I've got one on my C2, together with a primary muffler bypass (aka Cup pipe) - sounds great, not sure there's any significant power gain.

I guess I should find out if they were doing more than just the bypass - the company is MR Performance Cars in Salisbury and I hear they have a very good rep.

Thanks for the feedback though!

Just found out this price is for a cat bypass and complete stainless steel replacement system.

Does this make any more sense for £1000?

Cheers,

No, because you can ditch the backbox for an 80GBP j-pipe.

It doesn't sound so bad if it's fitted. I paid just under £200 for my cat bypass and around £700 for my Fabspeed stainless system. Fitting can be a few hours so I reckon it's not a bad deal.

Hi computamedic,

Just got myself a Fabspeed dual outlet system for my 964 C4, do you know who sells the best n/s bumber part to accomodate the extra outlet?
