How long do I have to make a SORN?

-Vehicle is taxed but will be uninsured in a couple of days
-The law says a vehicle that is taxed must be insured, if not, it should be SORN and tax refunded (V14 form)
So the question I'm asking is...
How long will I have before the DVLA fine or impound my vehicle etc after the point it will be uninsured
