Has anyone done the drive to Monaco and back? I spent a bit of time in Casino square looking t all the fantastic cars outside Hotel Paris when I was at the yacht show a few weeks ago and fancy taking the drive down. I googled it and it says 13 hours from Portsmouth but that includes the channel ferry trip.

I fancy doing it in the spring next year making a long weekend out of it so looking for some guidance from anyone who has done this before.

Best done in 2 days to get there ,motorway to Swiss border and then onto to Monaco. Return route Napolean to France and stay over then to Calais it's too far for a weekend. There maybe quicker routes but that's what I did in the summer.Mickey will give you more info I guess.

You'll miss some great nearby roads on the way as well wink
There are some superb tunnels around Monaco as well smile

David, I took the slow way down (overnight in Beaune) and then to Grenoble early morning and Route Napoleon to the south coast. Monaco (as you know) is more about the experience and every owner of a Grand Tourer should do it; it's what they were conceived for.

However I drove back in one day without Mrs yeti, autoroutes all the way (some of them were stunning!) with the roof off the whole time, an epic experience and done in around 8hrs to Calais.

Route Napoleon is considered one of the great driving roads; it's not >that< good but it's pretty decent for a road that actually takes you to where you're going rather than having to go out of your way! Few overtaking opportunities but if you get a clear run...

And the view from the Casino balcony after a healthy win at the roulette table and some outstanding martinis, a very familiar hairpin smile

I have done it in 2 days there - Grenoble day 1 and Monaco via N85 (Route Napolean) Day 2. As Mikey says, you miss some great roads just blasting down and back, worth taking extra time one way to enjoy some stunning roads and scenery around the Alps yes

On your tod or with the Mrs for a mini-break? If you want driving company, I know of a few cars who'd join the trip whistle

Did it myself this year and its superb. I'd not rush the trip down though. There is a car night train that runs from near Paris down to the south of France which I'd probably take next time as its dull motorway.

It is doable in a day of driving but I'd say take a friend.

We drove down from Calais with a break over-night at Anne-Sophie Pic's place in Valance. She is a third generation 3 Michelin star chef and has a good small hotel with secure underground parking. The journey was easier with the Sanef-t tag for the tolls ( from the Harrogate place but I think euro-tunnel do it now). We stayed at the Hotel de Paris and if you can don't miss the view from Le Grill on the eighth floor. As you can see the valet parking guy whisks your Aston off but it still creates a stir wherever it goes. If you want to see the Ferrari boys who drive round at 10pm ish then eat in the Louis XV and they make a lot of noise just outside the restaurant.

The soufflé there is worth the drive by itself.

Guys, The more the merrier. I was only thinking of somewhere different rather than the Easter break to Madeira. As you know my job takes me to Monaco every year and I always take the time to walk up the hill to drool over the cars in Casino Square. And the knowledge that the local police only allow 'Certain' cars to park in the square. (I know for a fact that ANY Aston has this privilege).

I don't wish to hijack the dates for another trip I just fancied a trip to Monaco.

More than happy to make it a convoy.....

Would be a pleasure. Monaco was good this year as we had 11 boats on display ranging from a little 44mtr Haakvort to the largest yacht at the show M/Y QUATTROELLE at 87mtrs. We stuck a Porsche 918 on the back and an EC135 on the front just for the show. Porsche took orders for '6' of the 918 at 750,000 pounds a pop.

I have just read about Quattroelle, that is stunning. No good for me though as I would need crew. I so nearly bid on that as well...........
