Modified Vegetables.......

I'm sitting here listening to the sound of lids going pop.......
So we have a "postage stamp" garden but Mrs BC likes to only have things growing that give something back - the garden was prepared for winter last weekend some things needed some heavy pruning - which normally horrifies Mrs BC but works better for me as I occasionally need to park a car in it over winter.

We had a good crop of ripe figs all summer averaging 1 a day for the July - Sept however the tree still had an awfull lot of unripe green figs on it
Our Veg plot provided lots of tomatos but again we had some green ones that were never gonna ripen
Time to use them up
Ingredients then
3 x Garlic (Harvested early)
Onions - little to small but full of flavour
2 kgs of un-ripe figs
2 Kgs of un-ripe tomatos
some brown sugar
spices and pickling vinegar
Some preparation and cooking and some time spent sterilising jars and lids and the window sill loaded up with stuff cooling off

5 Jars of preserved figs on the left (green figs in syrup - great with ice cream or even on their own)
16 Jars of Green Fig and tomato chutney (serve with cheese - just cheese - sod the crackers)
Left me with a whole heap of washing up

Nice way to spend an evening.....
