I need to improve the sound of my TV set but have some limitations, and was thinking of buying the Sonos sound bar but before i push the button i would like some advise from the PH audio experts to ensure im not making a mistake

My current set up:
Consists of a 65 inch Panasonic plasma( cant remember the number, but its the latest one out, but not the range topper version.
Apple TV
Swiss com box (sky type thing for switzerland)

And thats it, not even a blueray player!

I also have an iMac, iPhone and about to buy a iPad (makes me sound like a fan boy!)

Living in Switzerland means apartment living, and i live in an older (1694!) converted house, so sound proofing could be better!

My main concern is bass, which tends to annoy neighbours the most, as this system does not have a subwoofer powering into my neighbours ceiling i thought it could be quite appropriate?

But was wondering how a 90cm sound bar would look and perform under a 65inch TV smile
I previously owned the KEFF egg speakers (original version) and a Denon amp and a sub, which sounded fantastic, i assuming i won't get near this level of pleasure? Im not after volume, just clear depth at low volume.

Any thoughts or alternative sound bars/ set ups at around this price?

I recently added the playbar to my Sonos collection and had a very similar set up to you - Flat, thin walls, Apple TV as source, etc..

In terms of normal performance, it adds a great richness to the TV sound. When you set it up, you disable the TV speakers so the sound is just coming out of the Playbar. I found most things I was watching to sound infinitely better. Even some adverts with a bit of a bass line had the Sonos putting out some great deep sounds.

However, when just listening to music through iTunes/Spotify and using the Playbar as a dedicated speaker, it does lack the bass you may want - hence people often opt for the sub too.

One of the features it has is a night mode - which will help with your neighbours. If I remember correctly, it softens the bass volumes and enhances the highs.. or something like that.

I did buy the Sub, but didnt use it before I moved to my new house as it was way too powerful for apartment living.

Thanks Rich
I think i will go for it, my only niggle is its size, at 90cm its not going to be any where near the edge of the TV at 65inches :/

As the above,

I would recommend you going to a SONOS supplier for a demonstration, I did and thought the SoundBar sounded pretty rubbish until they turned the bass bin on!!! Just my opinion
It may very be the location of the demonstration or their set up designed to either put you off or make you buy the bass bin which is a lot of money!!! I fell for it if it was a ploy lol

Now I have a dilemma ill be posting about. Quite comical really so, not wishing to hijack this thread, ill make my own

Good luck and enjoy the purchase smile

Headphones is a fair point, but i dont want to wear them all the time walking round the house listening to music, plus not much good with friends smile

I bit the bullet and bought one without hearing it (no one had one wired up in Zurich) and am pleased with the result.

Its not a touch on the 5.1 kef eggs and Denon amplifer, but then it was never going to be.

What it is is a huge improvement over my TV speakers along with an even better increase of listening to music compared to the imac internal speakers!

its pricy for sure, but in my particular environment it fits perfectly, if i move to a newer built apartment over here then i would put it in the bedroom and buy a dedicated amp / speaker package like i had before, but for now it fits my requirement, plus i enjoy the radio station set up of sonos
