Discussion
Did you read the Octane article a few months ago about the rebuilding of one for a UK based oil executive. Very interesting. They are very difficult to find parts for these days, yet tyres are now available at a way more reasonable price, around £800 each!! The engines are strong, but trim, electrics and glass etc are nearly impossible to find. It would be well worth calling the specialists who did the work to discuss with them what to look out for.
Here is a Flickr link...with a vast number of images re the rebuild http://www.flickr.com/photos/76095413@N05

Thank you very much for the link to the Octane article, someone is spending big bucks on that re-build, I can imagine that parts must be a bit of a nightmare, but I would have thought that because it was a small run 301 in all, Gearbox, transfer box & Diffs might be ZF, although with Lamborghini, you never know.
Graham who restored the car mentioned in the article above - web link on the LM002 here
seen this car in the flesh - it is certainly better finished than new - think he might be restoring some others for some clients - but you need to check it out with him - some pix from Salon Prive where i saw the car recently:

I had a look at the re-build on flickr, and there is a lot of interesting info, I am sure that suspension/driveline wear parts will be available if you look hard enough.
Some time back I bought an Espada that was burning oil!!! it had been overheated and needed ring, bearing and an oil pump, the spare parts prices were frightening, I guess no more so than other exotic cars.
I also saw the guy rebuilding a LM002 in the far east, I think he is taking a more practical approach to repairs than they did with OIL 3000, but I guess he will be looking at a lot smaller budget, having said that OIL 3000 is a stunning finished product, the car looks stunning!!!!

Just a bit of an update, I went ahead and bought the LM002, and no I have not gone & had the snip to stop the madness spreading!!!!
there has been quite a bit of work to be done, all the interior refurbishing, hoses, seals, injectors, fuel system. exhaust system and a full set of new Pirelli Scorpion tires. this week I am replacing a leaking seal in the Transfer Box, to date I have not any big problems with spares, Eurospares have had most of the parts I needed.
In the day, the LM got a lot of negative press as being ridiculous, and yes it is over the top and a bit mad, but if you look at the design & engineering, the vehicle is very well built, the driveline and suspension is like no other SUV, the diffs, transfer box & drive shafts look (50mm solid bar) like they came off a truck, and the same applies to the chassis frame, it is a well designed round tube spaceframe that looks adequate for the job, on the downside, fuel consumption is ridiculous, and the shape is a bit mad too. The Countach stands out as the Supercar, and in the same way, the LM002 is still the ultimate SUV

The picture is of the car before I fitted the new tires, yes I am very glad I bought it, it really is something very special (and different), there have been a lot of small repairs that I have had to do over the last three years where repairs were done incorrectly, I first viewed the car when it was new in Johannesburg S.A. at that stage I could never have guessed that I would become the owner one day!!!!
Compared to the new Urus, the LM is a bit antiquated, nearly a ton heavier and 110bhp less power, in the last 25 years motor vehicle technology has developed beyond belief,

To appreciate how special the Urus is I recommend watching this drag race of the latest most powerful SUV's on the market https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S4PoEZn2htk
