Another GoPro Sound/Mic question

Finding it hard for an answer to this by googling. Can a gopro use two external mics at once? I am looking into buying one and I dont know which one to go for...

I hate hate hate the internal mic on a gopro, i'm surprised they still supply such a st sound definition. I want to use one in the engine bay near the airbox, and one mic near the exhaust. Can they be connected at once? Ta

I don't think so, not without using a headphone splitter cable but I can't imagine it sounding any good.

Another way of looking at it is to use a second sound recorder, say one of those standalone ones and mix the sound in after.

This is the best way to do it full stop.

Forget recording on the camera it has way to many limitations, the Zoom H4 is a good way to start.

Yes, it can, and I have done this. I use a 1 x 3.5mm stereo to 2 x 3.5mm mono Y-splitter and then two separate mono mics.

What would happen using the splitter approach but instead of using two mono mics, using two stereo mics?

Using the splitter that I do, I can be sure that each mic will appear on only one channel. I have no idea what would happen on a stereo to stereo splitter.

However, if you mean using the same splitter as me but with stereo mics, then the results should be the same.
