Hello, a friend is leaving a job and we want to get either a Morgan three wheeler or an LNER Mallard train model. The bigger the better and budget of up to £100 say. I've trawled some sites but it is all a bit confusing! Any help gratefully recieved!

Thanks

Found a 1/16 plastic model kit on ebay. Obviously it will need to be built.

For the locomotive you will struggle for £100. Best will probably by a Hornby OO gauge (1:76) model. These are in fact fine models with a fair amount of detail but it may not be what you're thinking of. Also I would imagine you would want the model in the traditional colours for Mallard, Garter blue with red wheels.

Small, but looks nice.

Good point! Something built. The guy has a three wheeler painted in the Mallard colour so the best of both worlds I thought. He is leaving the team, so something as a leaving gift...

Thanks for the input to date. They both look good. How much is a decent Mallard built model then? Much more than £100?

Thanks again. I spent about an hour looking and it was like a blizzard - couldn't see through it to what I should get...

The Hornby "railroad" A4 pacific "Mallard is rrp £99.99, the high detail one is £170. You can get them cheaper online. The guys that get long service awards here get Hornby loco mounted on a bit of track stuck to a wooden plinth, they do look really nice on the shelf.

Is he into trains? Was the colour of his Morgan chosen because of the Mallard or was that a coincidence?

Thanks for the responses. I think we're going with the Morgan sold model and getting some goggles from their site as well. Thanks for all the help. Sooooo useful! Much appreciated. The secretary thinks I'm a star!

There's some nice stuff on the Morgan three Wheeler Club - this book is only £10 and the car is pretty similar to Garter Blue.

p.s. Is it an old Morgan Three Wheeler or one of the new ones? Very different...

It's an old one and is actually for sale (but that's another story). It was one of the featured cars this months Classic and Sports car. Immaculate thing...

Brumm did a light blue old Morgan 3 Wheeler, I think they are now out of production but you might find a mint used one on eBay:

Not mine btw.

Corgi also do a die cast 1/120 Mallard and Tender for about £25.
