Apologies for appearing to be a tad stupid but im struggling to workout my cost per mile in the Mini. Im trying to do some basic man maths to justify a barge or 4x4 of some sort with a large V6 or V8.

I know that im roughly getting 28mpg out of the Mini Cooper S and last year covered around 8600 miles.

Is there a simple way to work it out and what else do i need to include? Insurance? Tax? Etc?

Maths has never been my strong point.

Add up everything you spend on the car; divide by the number of miles you drive.

I have a spreadsheet and I record:

Fuel
Tax
Insurance
Tyres
Servicing
Oil
Screenwash (yes really!)
Depreciation <- This one most people forget
Income (from car allowance + expenses)
Loan repayments

Basically anything that I spend is recorded.

My current daily driver (Jag XJR) I have had for 7 months and so far it has cost me 1.3p per mile over 10,260 miles. But I have outstanding expenses so by the end of this month that should be about 0 which is all I aim for - no cost motoring in a nice car :-)
