Hi Jaguar experts.

I am looking for a fast 4 door luxury car and the XFR has jumped to the top as they look a great buy for around £30k... what is the downside, could any owners give me some pointers?

Thanks

I'm not an owner but I have driven a fair few XFs (but not the XFR) , the only comment I have is maybe the suspension is too harsh ? I had an XF Sport for a week and the suspension was rock hard, really uncomfortable and no noticeable improvement in handling over a normal XF. It was so bad in fact that I just left it on my drive and used my other car for a week until it went back.

ETA: From the Autocar review

The Jaguar XFR’s substantial chassis changes are instantly noticeable. For a start there’s an additional firmness to it and far more bumps are telegraphed through to the cabin. This isn’t just noticeable at urban speeds but even at three-figure pace. However, the fact that it’s all so quiet and controlled still makes the Jag a very credible cruising tool

So maybe its better than the Sport that I drove.

They are a great car. I had one for a year. Mine was the XFR 100R....SIIMPLY STUNNING. The only issue i had was the thermostat housing in the valley leaked. it took 3 weeks to get it sorted. It is a know issue with this engine. Apart from that they go like s**t off a shovel.

I have done 20,000 miles in mine now, can't fault it, almost perfect for me in every way, there a bargain because they are a dinosaur in this CO2 taxed world, £475 a year tax and 20mpg just doesn't cut it amongst the 1.9 tdi brigade, buy one, accept the cost and love every mile (can't do that in a diesel don't care what you say!!!)

^^^^^

Agree 100%. Had mine for 16 months - it's a hot rod in a nice suit. The ride is fine. No worse than any other über saloon out there.

Buy one while you can.

This^^^ yes

We have a close relation in the household, a 5.0 V8 S

Despite 'only' 385bhp/380lb/ft, they still go like absolute fking greased weasel st. biggrin

Oh, and with a Spires exhaust, sound fking awesome!

Thanks. What is the servicing costs like on the XKR, big step up from the S?

Service 'B' (whatever that is) just last week actually. Cost £232 iirc. Not sure about the XFR, but I'd imagine they use the same oil, oil filter and air filter (x2).

Insurance is pretty reasonable too. We almost got an XFR (sold before I could put a deposit down rolleyes) and it was under £450.

Have you driven either? If not, please try one, you can't help but like them smile

The only real downside is depreciation. You will lose a hell of a lot of that £30K over the next couple of years.

That's true, although it's pretty much the case for anything that's relatively modern and has four doors though.

Looking at these myself at the mo, but wanting a facelift version. It's looking like I may have to go for an XF-S due to the fact that 20mpg will double the household fuel bill, but it sure is more appealing than the diesel. planning on 30mpg for the S, more would be great however.

Answer the q, ride on these new Jags is more compromised now, but compared to Mercs, Bimmers & Audi's it's superb.

I hate you guys!!!!! I live in Ireland where the tax system is crippling. So much so that my 4.0litre x300 costs €1,805 per annum to tax. Over €2,000 if I do it quarterly. Given that I am away from home for prolonged periods of time, as I drive tour coaches, the car sits parked at my workplace for a large chunk of the summer! Still, someone once said that money can't buy you love, but you can drive around in comfort looking for it!

Been watching these, only problem I can see is its a fast Jag saloon, and fast Jag saloons loose value faster than royal mail shares when the unions strike.

I'm on my third Jag in a row, gone from XFS to XK Convertible and now an XFR and have to say it is the best all round car I've ever had, and I have had lots of 'em! I'm the type who changes quite regularly but had this car for over eighteen months now, have test driven various cars in between but cannot jump out of it just yet. It would also cost me to do so, so no point at all. Also looks great and does get thumbs up, that does not happen in mercy, bmws etc.

Great car and at thirty odd grand you may lose a little but not too much, big dip has already happened. Just go for it and enjoy.

Can you tell me your thoughts when comparing the XFS to XFR. Pro's, cons, like ability, drive ability, use ability etc...

Many thanks
