E46 M3 CS brakes and options
Discussion
Hi all,
I found out yesterday that my front left calliper has seized, jacked the car up and can hardly move the wheel!
The disc has been damaged on this side, shiny and discoloured.
New front discs, pads and left calliper needed. Current brake setup all BMW standard.
What are my options? any decent aftermarket parts?
I'm gutted, insurance comes out today too so I really need this!
Cheers,
J

I rebuilt the calipers on my Alpina E46 and if you're ok with the spammers it's actually very simple and obviously a lot cheaper than a new caliper.
Are you sure you've ruined the disc, it was pretty obvious when mine went so I pulled over, let them cool, and repeated until I got home. No damage done.

No idea about costs but these are some options
New BMW CS front brakes (same as CSL)
New AP Racing
Front 6 piston
Rear 4 piston
New Brembo
New BMW Performance front caliper which is 6 piston made by Brembo and will fit standard CS discs. Though I think u have to get a special bracket. Others have done that. Best to ask them how. BMWP caliper was designed originally as option for E9X

Front pads around £90 plus vat Who are these made by?
Front left Caliper around £230 plus vat

Just been on Euro Car Parts:
They have Pagid discs 2 different sizes 325mm dia and 345mm dia, I take it the CS model is the latter being 345mm dia.
Prices for Pagid disc each - £166.80 Inc VAT
They also have Pagid pads.
Anyone used the Pagid disc or pads?
I wonder who make the BMW 1s?
Cheers,
J

Unless you have a CS/CS, the 345mm discs will not work with your current calipers unless you buy the CSL carrier brackets at an extra £350ish.Prices

drop a line to cw on the z3mcoupe.com forum. he is selling brand new CSL discs for 220 the pair (or close to that). They are genuine Zimmermanns (like the OEM) but are not BMW branded. I have them on my track car and I am more than happy.
The CS/CLS use the same calipper as the normal M3, only the calipper bracket is different. Plenty of used calippers on ebay for not much money. Or just order the calipper repair kit from BMW, very easy to do and pretty straight forward. Most likely you will need a new piston on top of the rubber seals.

I had my front calipers refurbished by Bigg Red. Just over £100 for both sides which includes new pistons, seals etc and they media blast and repaint them too. There are different finishing options if you want to spend a few extra quid. At that price I didn't see the point in struggling myself. The only downside is the car will be off the road for a week.

I bought refurbished front calipers from brakeparts.co.uk It was a great price and the calipers were absolutely as good as new.

Standard items for the normal M3 are Textar pads and ATE discs, not sure on the CS though.
As for upgrades, unless you're tracking it often just go with hoses (Goodridge or HEL), decent fluid (RBF 600) and Pagid RS29 pads.

Thanks for the replies: Oxam, Benny C, e36er!
Biggred looks really good, i'll think about that when I go on my hols and don't need to use the car.
Braided hoses defo.
I had the calliper and pads done on Saturday, really needed my car for work! Otherwise would have brought the recon or biggred.
Didn't have the discs done as my mech had ordered the std M3 discs, obviously need the 345mm discs.
Contacted Chris from z3mcoupe.com, no discs in stock at the moment but will check at the end of the week, thanks for that.
BMW - need to get stock from Germany.
Driving with new pads on old discs with one being warped and heat damaged isn't ideal but I need to get to work!
Appreciate all the replies.
