Pistonheads App...???
Discussion
Pistonheads is one of the main websites I visit while on the web. It's a relatively complex website, and can be a bit of a pain on the iPad and definitely on the iPhone.
This topic may have already been discussed - but can we expect an App for Pistonheads, or at least one for the Classifieds section??
Perhaps there are some App developers who are members of Pistonheads who could get the ball rolling....
Nope, we've gone the route of a responsive design instead. Meaning, instead of developing an iOS app, an Android app, Blackberry app, etc. we've just made our site work across all browsers and it will adjust to the screen size.
We released the latest iteration of that yesterday. See here and have a play: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

I'd rather it didn't, those forums that tell you "HEY WE HAVE AN APP" every time you look at them on a mobile site are fairly bloody annoying. As if it'd be more convenient to exit my web browser to use a specific app to look at one site? There's no point, it works just fine and with the newer, higher res screens and increasing connection speeds on 3G, 4G and beyond, it's going to become less and less necessary to even have a cut-down mobile version
Bumping this bad boy.
Yes apps are annoying. But when your favourite website has the best range of cars for sale, great automotive news and the best banter online it’s a shame there’s no app experience for it.
The website is responsive but is clunky when searching for cars.
Now that PH has been bought out surely there’s some app money floating around?
Heck I’d pay a quid for it.

It will never happen. I approached PH in 2012 about doing an app. Got politely told to sod off despite having a working proof of concept
That was before my time so it wasn't me, honest
We are currently assessing the viability of building a classified app. As above, we can't give any idea of timescale just yet, but watch this space.

Thanks for the update.

I joined PH in around 2004 and started using it again just yesterday after many years away.
It feels pretty much the same as it did a good 10 years ago!
