What current new cars do you think will be future classics?
Discussion
With a lot of the cars these days either being built to a price or emission regulations, what cars do you, the PH massive think will be a future classic?
I'm thinking more of mainstream cars rather than the obvious expensive exotic cars that you could go out and buy brand new.
Over to you!

Of new and recent (Last 10 years) cars:
MX5 (It will be the MGB of the future. Not sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing)
Scooby WRX's
Evo's
Nissan GTR
350/370Z
Z4M
Clio V6
Possibly the Honda Insight. Not obvious, but the first of its type. It may become an interesting footnote or an originator of something big, but I think it will be a classic.
And of course anything from the big super/hyper cars. The obvious classics.
Probably anything with a soft top will be seen as "classic" eventually.

Anything that lasts long enough is the answer.
Go to any classic car show and there is frequently nothing classic about what you see, only a field of nostalgia and survivors.
My own view is that this will preclude many cars and limit classics to cheap cars without complex electronics so the Aygo/C1/107 will eventually become the new "Morris Minor". I think most "survivors" have engendered an uncommon bond with their owners (The Moggy had character) and that is increasingly rare with modern cars as they become disposable white goods.
Off the top of my head, naturally aspirated cars like the Clio 172/182/197 and Clio V6 will become classics. My own Fiesta Mk 6 ST will (one day) and I suspect an original Toyota prius will also be there.

To an extent, being mainstream precludes most cars from becoming classics, assuming classic doesn't simply mean old...
Firstly, I'd ignore outright performance and, to a lesser extent, handling - many so-called classic cars would struggle to outperform a modern warm hatchback.
I'd say a good combination of styling, image, maintainability and relative rarity would be more important factors.
Of the truly mainstream, current offerings, how about:
BMW Z4
Mercedes SLK
Mazda MX-5
Porsche Cayman/Boxster
Toyota GT86

I guess the real question is, what are "you" considering a classic? And lets not forget most main stream cars have always been built to a price, if not all of them.I'm thinking more of mainstream cars rather than the obvious expensive exotic cars that you could go out and buy brand new.

But the reason for asking this is quite simple, if you went to a car show and saw these would you consider them as "classics"?

The point I'm getting at, is if you do. Then you are happy that any normal car that is old enough is a classic. Which means most normal cars today when they reach the same age will not be any different.
Therefore cars like a Focus, Rover 75, VW Eos, BMW 116 and many others will all be classics.
If however you don't consider the above to be classics, can you please cite some examples of what "mainstream" classics actually are.
