Any new Octavia VRS owners? Couple of questions.
Discussion
Searched a couple of old threads but kind find anything specific. I'm seriously considering one of these, possibly on a lease basis as there are some good deals around-going to visit the nearest dealer tomorrow. Never owned remotely close to a new car but after a few years of shedding some fixed price motoring for a couple of years appeal at the moment.
What I'd specifically like to know is what they're like comfort wise on longer trips? I'm 6'4" and er wide. As a result I've found some cars a bit uncomfortable after a couple of hours. The Mrs Astra for example I seem to get a dead leg/arse after a couple of hours. It appears cruise control was only an option which seems ghay on a modern car of this type-seems to be a £200 option.
Any other opinions/ownership stories appreciated. I'd much prefer the petrol however the lease deals are significantly better on the diesel.

There was a brand new Octavia released a few months ago, so make sure any feedback you get is from that not the mk2.
Just for clarity, it is this model you speak of. Just called the local dealer and fortunately they have a petrol manual in, DSG, and a diesel in manual. Never driven a car with DSG but not something I'd be looking for. At least I'll get to compare the petrol and diesel side by side.Try here http://www.briskoda.net/forums/forum/235-skoda-oct...
Really friendly bunch.
For interest I have a MKII VRs 2.0 CR with DSG - great combination engine and gearbox. Can see 50+ mpg easily.

Cheers. Main thing I've taken from that website is the build times seem long. Been told 10 weeks but seems much longer fr most.Really friendly bunch.

Took out both the petrol and diesel models on Saturday. Was much more impressed with the petrol than the diesel, although one caveat was I was in heavier traffic so didn’t get to open up the diesel as much. The delivery of power in the diesel seemed very narrow to me, I’ve not owned a diesel but driven plenty of hire cars and from 180 odd bhp just expected allot more ooommph.
Finish of the interior was impressive and it was comfortable. With the sports seats it’s a slight concern how comfortable it will be on longer journeys. The boot is huge on the hatch but I’m not sure whether to go for the estate or the hatch still.
Not ordered one yet, but can’t think of much that comes close for the money.

The Focus hatch is quite a lot smaller in terms of boot space and rear leg-room. Is there an estate version of the mk3 ST?
Yep and like the Octavia the estate is the better looking machine as well.

Mrs S and I tested them both and felt that while the diesel was effortlessly quick it lacked that certain something. I'm not saying that the Petrol was the ultimate in hot hatch/estate but it felt a lot more eager. For the price, the performance and space I could only think of the Focus as another option. Mrs S thinks the focus looks ugly inside and out so as it's her car we've ordered a Race Blue Estate TSi Manual. Finish of the interior was impressive and it was comfortable. Now the wait....

Not sure about the brand new model but I'm 6 4" and I've done the best part of 90k in mine in about 3 years. Lovely place to sit and plenty of room too.
It’s hard to describe but one thing that worried me is the door handle was in such a position it seemed like it might get in the way a bit meaning I’d have to have my leg at a funny angle for the accelerator I think this is the issue in the Mrs Astra.I’m 6’4” and about 17st, so having a wide ass could be an issue but I seemed to fit ‘snuggly’ in the vRS seat.
It’s annoying how a fairly cheap extra in the form of cruise control isn’t standard. I fancy black.
