Where do people get off at doing the above?

I've noticed it quite frequently lately on my daily commute. People who drive up slip roads at
30mph or less causing the 10 cars behind to bunch up because of the speed difference, who then slot themselves into a gap leaving the 9 remaining cars to struggle their way into the traffic..

There may not be any rules surrounding what speed to join a DC but surely people can work out that it's best to match the traffic speed not slowing right down?

Some people are muppets.

Go slow enough to leave enough of a gap. Let muppet join the dc. Accelerate up to the correct speed then on your way.

Obviously the more power available the safer you can be.

Surely people can work not to get on a sliproad behind a muppet

85hp diesel clio frown I have enough oomph to get upto 60-70 within the length of most slipways but not enough to slow down, wait and then speed up..

The particular slip way in question is an exit from a roundabout so most of the time I have no idea what speed the person in front is likely to join at until I'm behind them but cheers wiggle bum wink

Best try to spot the Muppets long before you get to the DC that way you can plan accordingly in good time. Of course sometimes Muppets just appear out of no where & other times perfectly normal drivers just go into Muppet mode at the last moment wink

In this case I try to spot the dawdlers at the joining roundabout and take a wide line in order to "bwaaaarp" past them on the second lane of the sliproad, if available. Far safer to join the main carriageway at running speed.

A problem made worse by the fact round here, they've not only reduced the sliproads to one lane rather than two, but also shortened the entry point to the dual carriageway. Actually they've made them dangerous. Presumably then thats why the highway agency then reduced the limit to 50.

Cynical, me? rolleyes

I've noticed more and more muppets joining at 40mph. They build up a queue behind them and the SHTF when the traffic in Lane 1 is doing 50-60mph and there is nowhere for them to go. In effect they force traffic to slow for them.

Another thing I hate are traffic lights on motorway junctions. Instead of a steady flow of traffic joining you get a sudden surge of vehicles all bunched together wanting to join.

Another thing I've noticed is the standard of driving on the way to work at 6am and the way home at 3pm.
On the way in there is about the same amount of traffic on the roads but it seems to move much smoother, people do the speed limits and people the general driving skill is better..
On the way home people tend to bumble along way below the speed limit, roundabouts and slipways become dangerous almost and that's where I see most of my rubbish driving..

On the way in at 6am are people going to work. They're in a routine of being up early and are keen to get to work. Driving is essentially part of their job and they tend to be fairly competent at it.

On the way home at 3pm are people doing the return leg of the school run. They either don't work, or work part time. They're too busy listening to what Tarquin did at lunchtime to be concerned with driving.

...And really early in the countryside you get the proper pros!

I fondly recall an early morning Bank Holiday run from Minehead to Bristol in order to get to work by 8am. Following a transit in my M3 and genuinely wouldn't have been making much better progress on the twisty A road if he wasn't in front. Really excellent cornering and anticipation. He still indicated for me to pass at a suitable section though, top chap.

I saw a woman pull off the hard shoulder of a motorway at about 20mph, she'd gained speed for all of about 15m.

I had a guy at work that insisted the maximum speed along a slip road to join a motorway was 40mph max! We had a bet and of course I won smile Unbelievable that some people think this and rather worrying too. Another guy bet with me that the legal maximum speed of a motorway was 80mph!! He only passed his test a year ago, the future is not bright, it really isn't.
