Does anyone know what process Porsche used to treat the bodyshells of cars in the 80s?
I've read that 944s were built using galvanised panels, but what happened after they were welded together? Was the bodyshell then dipped again?
Welding the parts together to make the body would remove the zinc coating at these points.
I am interested as on my '86 944, there is a small cavity just in front of the torsion bar mounting, towards the rear edge of the floorpan, where there is some rust, but everything around it looks fine.

Thanks

Simon

I'm no expert but currently looking to buy a 928 myself. I believe that if the parts are galvanised that any later damage or bodge repair can cause them to degalvanise in places and therefore rust. Minor damage breaks the galvanised surface and lets water onto the base metal. This then rusts as normal.

So yes I think they are galvanised but yes they can also rust. Just from what i've been told.
