Remote stats, anyone using them?

Have had a mindblowing quote to change the stat [only, tb not due] on my AJL quattro, [stat cost 10.99 fitting £200!!] crazy, just crazy.

Does anyone use a remote stat set up, one where the original has failed open, but a housing is plumbed into the original pipework to take it's place whilst also allowing replacement in 10-20 mins?

Anything VW do it by the book and use OEM parts NOT a halfords special. Also use the VW red antifreeze. Pain in the arse job and messy .....
